Island hopping the Azores | SATA Dash 8 to Flores and Terceira

Join Gabe on the next leg of this Atlantic island-hopping adventure with some… extensive island hopping. Today we’re jumping around the Azores on a series of Dash 8 Q400 flights, from Ponta Delgada to Flores then back to Ponta Delgada and finally to Terceira. But things don’t go entirely as planned.

In particular we’ll be looking at the Trent 1000 (which powers the 787) and how Rolls Royce is improving reliability and durability by swapping out High Pressure Turbine components. We’ll also check out their most advanced engine inspection technology as we get a demo of their boroscoping method.

We’ve got lots of elements for a fun flight: a short runway with a steep slope, uncontrolled airspace, light aircraft in the vicinity shuttling between safari camps, and a truly special mix of wildlife to look out for.

Today we’re flying Copenhagen to Copenhagen to test out the brand new SAS Starlink inflight internet. Not only are we flying nearly four hours up to the Arctic Circle and back, we’ll also be playing the world’s first air-to-ground game of Counter-Strike.
