Arlanda Airport – Behind the Scenes Airside Tour

In this video we get a rare behind-the-scenes look at operations at Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport. We spend the day going around the entire airfield and along the way we learn all sorts of interesting facts about the how the airport functions. We see a TUI 787 get pushed back up close (including how the tug attaches to the landing gear!); we watch takeoffs and taxiing from just along the runways and taxiways at various spots; we learn about wildlife control and which animals tend to burrow under the fences most; we visit the mysterious Air Sweden MD-80 tucked away in the forest and learn what it’s used for; we watch a Swedish Police helicopter take off; we check out the collection of classic planes parked at Arlanda including a BAe ATP, a Caravelle, and an old and very mysterious DC-8.

We take a walk through the new VIP Terminal and even get a look inside the Royal Suite where the King and Queen of Sweden wait for their flights; and we learn about some of the new construction going on around Terminal 5 including a tour of the site where the new consolidated security screening area is being completed in time for this coming summer!

The truth about the DC-8 revealed!! From Daniel: “The plane was bought from United by a Swiss airline that was owned by a Saudi family who wanted it converted into a VIP aircraft. They actually bought two DC-8’s, VP-BHM, the one we still have, and VP-BHS which was to be used for spares. An “aircraft broker” was brought on to handle the refurbishment. The story goes that Zimbabwe’s leader Robert Mugabe got in contact with the broker and wanted to buy the refurbished DC-8. The broker bought the aircraft from the Saudi family in the hopes of cutting a better deal with Mugabe but he later backed out of the deal. The broker ended up without a deal and the aircraft is still at the airport.”

**Giveaway rules**: make sure you’ve liked and subscribed. Then, let us know in the comments which aircraft you spotted in the video, and tell us where you think they were going. At least one aircraft, and you’ll be entered into a random drawing – but the first person to post a comment naming ten aircraft and their destinations correctly will also win one.

Big thanks to Daniel Skoglund and John Nilsson at Swedavia for the invitation and the grand tour.

AirLink Embraer walkaround

Flying a heavy jet to a bush airfield

Fly in the cockpit of an Airlink E-jet into Skukuza, a tiny airport in the middle of Kruger National Park. We’ve got lots of elements for a fun flight: a short runway with a steep slope, uncontrolled airspace, light aircraft in the vicinity shuttling between safari camps, and a truly special mix of wildlife to look out for.

The first SAS Starlink flight [Live Gaming Over the Arctic]

Today we’re flying Copenhagen to Copenhagen to test out the brand new SAS Starlink inflight internet. Not only are we flying nearly four hours up to the Arctic Circle and back, we’ll also be playing the world’s first air-to-ground game of Counter-Strike.

Up close with the COMAC C919 (China’s A320 competitor!)

The COMAC C919 is China’s entry into the commercial aircraft market and to be honest, Boeing and Airbus may need to worry. Gabe got a chance to visit and tour the aircraft inside and out at the Dubai Airshow and this aircraft looks and feels like the real deal.
