In this video we pay a visit to Flightradar24 receiver host Tim Daniels in far away Unalakleet, Alaska. Tim is the mechanic keeping the Bering Strait School District’s own Beech 200C King Air flying day in and day out. He works at a hangar at the airport in Unalakleet alongside pilot Yuri and helper Lonny. Together they run people and supplies to and from 15 sites around the area – “whatever it takes to keep the .schools running,” as Tim puts it.
It’s an impressive operation considering the remoteness of the area, the amount of logistics that need to go into it and the challenges they face on a regular basis – not least of which is the weather! Tim and his colleagues rely on the improved flight tracking from their Flightradar24 receiver to know where the N426SD is at any given time. Teachers and others out at the various regional schools use it to know when the plane is coming in too. Join us for this rare look at a very unique operation, part of the highly critical role aviation plays for the small communities in northwest Alaska.
