  1. Still have happy memories of the first time I went through Terminal 5 around 2009 once all the gremlins were worked out. Everything was brand new and looked incredible. A few weeks ago it didn’t look quite as a good – still a nice design however!

  2. On a trip out of Paris CDG in 2002, a few months after the shoe bomber so security was being extra uptight about taking shoes off. I remember 1.) whatever terminal I was in, the floor was bare stone (maybe even marble?) and cool to the touch, and 2.) because the floor was cold and everyone was barefoot, the airport handed out paper booties that we could put over our socks.

On a trip to Asia last year. Yes, Singapore Changi is glorious to behold, but it’s also a massive tourist trap. My best moment was planespotting for hours along the runway fence at Taipei Songshan. There’s a neat locally well-known spot right below the approach: https://maps.app.goo.gl/hT5CXUFTQT6mcXP98 And because Songshan is civil/military, I got to see 787’s mix it up with C-130’s!

  3. LGA Terminal B and the water feature, incredible and captivating, the tiny pixels used to draw is awe-inspiring. I don’t go through NYC very often so I didn’t have to work around however many years of construction, but OMFG!

  4. Auckland’s international terminal is a very chill place. They have quirky seating, the most amazing toilets, and the whole vibe is just chill. Even the departure boards tell you to relax when there isn’t a gate to announce yet.

  5. I think the best experience I have had in an airport was in TLL. The staff is usually very friendly and helpful and the terminal is very cosy and nice.

  6. Back in the early 90s they built a new Pittsburgh terminal. I had a trip to take and I left from the old terminal and arrived back at the new terminal. It made finding the car a bit difficult…

I’d say Doha but overzealous – not to say ridiculous – security marred the experience. Too long a story to tell here.

  7. Not CDG ever. but then it’s a tie between YVR and Barcelona. YVR because it never ever looks industrial and the food drinks are not that high. Barcelona because all those boarding zone categories each had a designated line set up. Chaos was non existent and boarding was FAST.

  8. The speed which Aer Lingus gets assistance for a passenger. Very satisfactory

  9. Qatars Doha international airport is a sight to behold. Take a walk through the planted indoor forest at one end of the terminal which is very relaxing after a long haul flight.

  10. On a flight from Chicago O’hare to Tel Aviv, about an hour or two before the boarding of our Boeing 787-10 or -9, some snack carts were brought out filled with small water bottles, motts fruit snacks, cheez-its, Pringle, and granola bars. Best part us that is all was free, you could grab 5 handfuls and no one would tell you you couldn’t. It was nice as it was a full 12 hour flight, I probably should’ve grabbed more. No idea why they did this as it was the only time out of all my flights that free snacks were given out.

  11. As an aviation field service engineer travelling all over the world, my favourite airport was with out a doubt Singapore
    Clean? Interesting and welcoming.

  12. Gosh I’m an avgeek so I love pretty much all airports but my favorite is ZRH (Zurich) because it is a great airport to from but also great for having layovers.

  13. I guess the best airport plan is San Francisco SFO, it’s not the best decoration but best plan of building.. in/out, parking.. gates..
