Ethiopian investigators released a preliminary report into the crash of ET302 last week. We discuss the data made available in the report and how Boeing and regulators move forward from here.

Air India Express 737 Hits ILS, Damages Wall on Departure, Flies for 4 Hours Before Diverting

Air India Express flight IX611 struck an ILS lighting tower and damaged a nearby brick wall at the departure end of RWY 27 in Trichy on departure early the morning of 12 October local time. The aircraft climbed to cruising altitude for 3 hours before safely diverting to Mumbai. No injuries have been reported. (more…)

Highlights from the Boeing 2017 Delivery Figures

Boeing released its 2017 order and delivery figures today, managing a record 763 aircraft deliveries, the most ever delivered in a single year. 69 percent of those deliveries were for variants of the venerable 737, including the first deliveries of the new 737 MAX. (more…)

Out with the Old, in with the MAX at Southwest

On Friday, 29 September Southwest Airlines retired the last 30 737-300 ‘Classics’ in its fleet ahead of the 737 MAX’s entry into service today. Southwest was the launch customer for the 737-300 in 1984 and took delivery of 150 of the type direct from Boeing. Southwest currently has 200 737 MAX on order. (more…)

Taking the Jump Seat to Málaga

On 19 June, we were fortunate enough to join the pilots of Norwegian flight DY4221 (NAX21U) on the flight deck for the four hour flight from Stockholm-Arlanda to Málaga. When we weren’t busy staring out the window or staying out of the way, we took a few photos and some video.

The Boeing 737 Turns 50

Yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of the first flight of the Boeing 737. On 9 April 1967, the prototype 737 took to the skies for the first time, beginning a 50 year journey that has shaped and reshaped how we fly. Since that day in 1967, nearly 14,000 737s have been ordered and almost 10,000 delivered to customers. (more…)
