Special Australian flights to celebrate women’s roles in aviation

12 flights around Australia will mark International Women’s Day on 8 March by operating with women only crews. To highlight the range of opportunities in the aviation industry, beyond just women pilots and flight attendants, the ground crews, dispatchers, air traffic controllers, and others working these flights will also be women.

The Australian chapter of Women in Aviation International (WAI) has partnered with crews from Qantas, Jetstar, Cobham, Virgin Australia, and the Royal Australian Air Force as well as Airservices Australia to operate flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane to cities around Australia.

Women in Aviation International – Australia

WAI is a non-profit group run by women with careers in aviation who are passionate about empowering and educating all those involved aviation and aerospace . The group has a special focus on encouraging women of all ages to consider aviation as a career.

WAI Australia president and pilot Lea Vesic said, ‘We know the next generation looks for role models to show them what they can aspire to. Being able to show a diverse workforce opens up the world of aviation to every young girl or boy who turns their head to the sky.’
