Singapore Airlines also holds position 2, with a flight of just five kilometres less than the longest. The sister flight of SQ23 is SQ21, also utilises an Airbus A350-900ULR and has been operating in its current format since March 2022. The flight covers a distance of 15,344km, has a block time of 18hrs 45mins, and departs at 10:00 from Newark (EWR), arriving into Singapore (SIN) at 17:10. The outbound flight, SQ22, from Singapore (SIN) has an average flight time of 17hrs 58mins.
Qatar Airways flight QR921 and QR920 is the 3rd longest flight in the world and covers a massive 14,535km. Qatar Airways utilise an Airbus A350-1000 on the route. QR921 departs Auckland (AKL) at 15:00 and arrives into Doha (DOH) at 23:15. The current average flight time for QR921 is 16hrs 34mins. The fourth longest flight in the world (and the longest flight operated by Qantas) is QF9 Perth (PER) to London Heathrow (LHR). The flight covers just under 14,500km and has a scheduled duration of 17hrs 25mins. The latest average flight time according to Flightradar24 data is 16hrs 57mins. It is the longest route flown by the Boeing 787 and has been operating in this guise since March 2018. It departs Perth (PER) at 18:45 and arrives into London Heathrow (LHR) as one of the first arrivals of the day at 05:05. The return flight, QF10, currently has an average flight time of 16hrs 11mins.

The fifth longest flight in the world is shared between Air New Zealand NZ1 and Qantas QF3, New York JFK (JFK) to Auckland (AKL). The route is Air New Zealand’s longest flight, and utilizes a Boeing 787-9 and covers a distance of 14,207km. NZ1 departs New York at 21:55 and arrives on average 16hrs 52mins later into Auckland. Qantas also operate the Boeing 787-9 across their this, their third longest route, and departs JFK earlier that NZ1, at 19:30, arriving into Auckland at 05:00. For the flight back to Auckland, NZ2 currently has an average flight time of 15hrs 20mins, compared to QF4 which is 15hrs 18mins.

The accolade of the longest Airbus A380 flight belongs to Emirates flight EK449 from Auckland (AKL) to Dubai (DXB). Only 7km less that Air New Zealand flight NZ1, the flight is also the longest operated by Emirates. EK449 departs Auckland at 20:30, on average 16hrs 41mins later into Dubai. The outbound flight from Dubai, EK448, is shorter in duration at 15hrs 01min.

Holding joint-seventh place are two flights – the twice-daily Singapore Airlines route from Los Angeles (LAX) to Singapore (SIN). As with SQ23 and SQ21, an Airbus A350-900ULR is the aircraft of choice for this massive East to West trip across the Pacific. SQ35 departs Los Angeles at 21:20 and arrives into Singapore at 0530z. SQ37 meanwhile departs Los Angeles at 23:40 and arrives on average 16hrs 10mins later into Singapore. The outbound flights from Singapore. SQ36 and SQ38 have an average flight time of 15hrs 08mins.

In eighth place we have both the longest Boeing 777-200LR flight, and longest Air India flight, AI176. The flight takes an average of 17hrs 22mins, and covers a distance of 14,004km. AI176 departs San Francisco (SFO) at 21:00 and arrives in Bengaluru (BLR) at 03:25. Many of the world’s longest flights were operated by the Boeing 777-200LR before the rise of new generation aircraft like the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350. The flight from Bengaluru to San Francisco, AI175, has an average flight time of 15hrs 53mins.

Qantas flight QF8 comes in as the ninth longest flight in the world, covering a distance of 14,004km between Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to Sydney (SYD). Our data shows QF9 has an average flight time of 16hrs 44mins and is operated by a Boeing 787-9. The flight departs DFW at 22:30 and arrives into SYD at 06:15. It is the longest flight Qantas operate to/from Sydney (SYD). The flight from Sydney, QF7, has an average flight time of 14hrs 22mins.
Last but by no means least is Philippine Airlines flight PR127 between New York JFK (JFK) and Manila (MNL). Not only is it Philippine Airlines’ longest flight, but also the longest flight operated by the Boeing 777-300ER. Philippine Airlines typically rotate the aircraft used on the route between the B777-300ER and the A350-900. Flightradar24 data shows the flight has an average flight time of 16hrs 13mins and covers a great circle distance of 13,712km. The outbound flight, PR126, from Manila has an average flight time of 15hrs 27mins.
