The sister flight of SQ23 is SQ21, also utilises an Airbus A350-900ULR and has been operating in its current format since March 2022. It is the longest route flown by the Boeing 787 and has been operating in this guise since March 2018. The route is Air New Zealand’s longest flight, and utilizes a Boeing 787-9 and covers a distance of 14,207km. NZ1 departs New York at 21:55 and arrives on average 16hrs 52mins later into Auckland. Qantas also operate the Boeing 787-9 across their this, their third longest route, and departs JFK earlier that NZ1, at 19:30, arriving into Auckland at 05:00. For the flight back to Auckland, NZ2 currently has an average flight time of 15hrs 20mins, compared to QF4 which is 15hrs 18mins.

The accolade of the longest Airbus A380 flight belongs to Emirates flight EK449 from Auckland (AKL) to Dubai (DXB). In eighth place we have both the longest Boeing 777-200LR flight, and longest Air India flight, AI176. The flight takes an average of 17hrs 22mins, and covers a distance of 14,004km. Many of the world’s longest flights were operated by the Boeing 777-200LR before the rise of new generation aircraft like the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350.
