- UAT is an alternative to 1090ES ADS-B out
- UAT is mainly used by smaller aircraft operating at lower altitudes
- Learn how you can share UAT data with Flightradar24
Most aircraft seen on Flightradar24 are tracked with ADS-B operating on 1090 MHz. Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) is an alternate to 1090ES transponders that operates on 978 MHz. UAT is designed for use by aircraft operating below 18,000 feet in the US and sends the same ADS-B tracking data as 1090 MHz transponders. With more than 200,000 general aviation aircraft in the United States, adding UAT coverage will help us track a much larger share of non-commercial air traffic in the US.

Where does Flightradar24 need UAT coverage?
In a word, everywhere. We’re especially interested in locations that can offer large improvements in UAT coverage, such as sites at or adjacent to large general aviation airports.
How you can share UAT data with Flightradar24
If you’d prefer to use your own equipment or already have a Raspberry Pi based ADS-B receiver, you can use our data sharing software to share UAT data with the Flightradar24 network. The software for UAT works just like our ADS-B software for 1090 MHz receivers and there are options for sharing ADS-B and UAT data or just UAT data.
If you want to share ADS-B and UAT data you will need a Raspberry Pi and two DVB-T dongles and antennas. You can then follow the installation instructions on our Share you data page. If you are already sharing ADS-B data with Flightradar24, you can connect the second DVB-T dongle to your existing Raspberry Pi.

You can also share just UAT data using a single dongle and antenna. Instructions for sharing UAT data only can be found here. If you’re just getting started and want to build a new receiver, we have a helpful guide on building your own receiver here.
Data sharers receive the best of Flightradar24 for free

Help add UAT-equipped aircraft to the JetPhotos catalog
Not only can you help us track more UAT flights, you can also have your photos of the aircraft shown on Flightradar24. We’re looking to add photos of more UAT-equipped aircraft to JetPhotos, our world-leading aviation photo catalog, which currently features more than 6 million screened photos of nearly 400,000 aircraft by 27,000 different photographers. If you have photos of general aviation aircraft (or any aircraft), submit them to JetPhotos today!
