We’re constantly striving to improve flight tracking coverage, and a key part of this effort involves installing new Flightradar24 ADS-B receivers at airports worldwide. Strategically positioned receivers not only expand the number of aircraft visible in a region but also enhance the ability to track aircraft movements on the ground, from the runway all the way to the gate. Each new receiver that comes online can greatly increase the total number of flights monitored, delivering more comprehensive data for both individual users and businesses.
Let’s take a look at our recent installation at Lansing Capital Region International Airport (LAN/KLAN).

Capital Region International Airport is located 3 miles northwest of downtown Lansing, Michigan. We activated our receiver at the airport on December 19, 2024.
Prior to installation, we tracked 1,263 individual aircraft positions on the ground and in the immediate vicinity of the airport over a 24 hour period. Following the installation of a receiver this increased to 9045 positions, that’s an uplift of 616%.
More accurate ground tracking means our users can follow aircraft movements between the gate and the runway. Quite simply, you get greater precision in tracking the aircraft’s full journey before takeoff and after landing at Lansing. Ground coverage also allows us to provide precise event timings, like gate departure and arrival, to customers who require it.

How Flightradar24 ADS-B receivers work
Flightradar24 ADS-B receivers capture signals broadcast by aircraft equipped with ADS-B transponders, which provide real-time data such as position, altitude, and speed. These signals are sent to Flightradar24’s network, processed, and displayed on our platform. By installing receivers in strategic locations, particularly near airports, we can offer more comprehensive and detailed coverage for users around the world. Interested in learning more?
