How to track the final Super80 Send Off

The Super80 Send Off to end all Super80 send offs, truly. On Wednesday, 4 September American Airlines will operate the final mass-retirement of its MD-80 fleet. The airline will operate its final MD-80 revenue flight and 23 MD-83 aircraft will make their way to Roswell, New Mexico throughout the day.

Tune in on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram as we join one of the final flights to Roswell. We’ll be using the hashtag #Super80SendOff for posts. Super80 is the name American Airlines gave their MD-80 fleet.

If you’d like to follow along, we’ve put together a guide to the final revenue flights and the retirement flights below. Follow all American Airlines MD-80 flights and use the tables to search for specific flights by flight number, route, or timing. We’ll be adding registration information for each flight as that becomes available.

Track American Airlines’ final MD-80 flights

You can follow all American Airlines MD-80 flights below and learn more about each aircraft on our American Airlines fleet page. The aircraft retiring have flown an average of 57,059 minutes each over an average 28,187 cycles. The longest serving aircraft is the sole retiring MD-82 with 82,324 hours and 44,289 cycles. The ‘youngest’ aircraft has 53,000 hours.


Final MD-80 revenue flight schedule

American will operate the final MD-80 revenue flights on 3 and 4 September. The final revenue flight will be flight AA80 from Dallas/Ft Worth to Chicago, departing DFW at 9:00 and arriving in Chicago at 11:35.

Retirement flight schedule

The vast majority of the retirement flights will take place from Dallas to Roswell. One aircraft each will leave for Roswell from Chicago, St. Louis, and Tulsa.  Two aircraft will fly to Tulsa as they will be donated by the airline. A final MD-80 will remain in Dallas for airport training.
