The history of special Star Wars special liveries

ANA was the first airline to unveil a special Star Wars livery in 2015. Since then Virgin Atlantic, LATAM, United Airlines, and Alaska Airlines have all at one point flown to a galaxy far, far away. Sadly, most of the aircraft have been repainted, but you can still find a few of the droids you’re looking for.

Alaska — Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge

Alaska Airlines’ 737-800 N538AS is painted in a Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge | Disneyland livery with a large Millennium Falcon on its tail. You can catch this aircraft mostly along the US west coast.

United Airlines’ 737-800 registered N36272 now wears a special The Rise of Skywalker livery featuring a blue lightsaber and United titles on the left side of the aircraft and a red lightsaber and United titles on the right.

LATAM’s 777-300ER PT-MUA has the world’s tallest stromtrooper painted on its tail as well as a stormtrooper helmet nose. The livery is coordinated with the Walt Disney World Galaxy’s Edge attraction.

ANA — the Droids you’re looking for

ANA was the first to paint an aircraft in a special Star Wars livery and has gone on to paint a total of four aircraft in Star Wars-themed liveries. There are now only two ANA Star Wars liveries left.

R2-D2

787-9 JA873A was the first to wear a special Star Wars livery and is painted to look like R2-D2.

  1. Some beautiful looking liveries there! Particularly like the ANA C-P3O livery.

  2. Gotta love the United Rise of Skywalker paint scheme. I saw it IAH the other day and she looked great.

  3. Is the United Airlines’ 737-800 registered N36272 – The Rise of Skywalker livery repainted already? Looking at JetPhotos it seems to have switched to a normal boring United paint job sometime in 2022. Unhappy I am.
