Torrential rains in Chennai over the past few days have left the airport flooded and closed through at least 6 December. Over two dozen aircraft are currently stranded at the airport, ranging from small private jets to a Boeing 747-400 freighter. Judging from photos posted on social media, at least 2 of the aircraft on the ground may not be leaving anytime soon.

According to Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) issued by the airport authority, flooding has affected many systems that rely on electrical power at the airport, including VOR/DME, ILS, and radio communications. The main factor keeping the airport closed, however, is the fact that the ramp, taxiways, and runways all remain under water.
