Following the 787 Fleet for a Day

Monday was the fifth anniversary of the first 787 delivery to launch customer All Nippon Airways. Since then, Boeing has delivered over 450 787s and has orders for 700 more. We decided to take a look at Monday’s 787 flights to see how airlines are using the 787. All data is taken from Monday, 26 September UTC.

On Monday, we tracked 928 Boeing 787 flights by 39 different carriers. All Nippon Airways—which is not only the launch customer, but Boeing’s biggest 787 customer—operated 113 flights. ANA has taken delivery of 50 787s so far, with orders for additional 33 aircraft (including 3 787-10 models). Qatar Airways, whose fleet of 787s numbers 30, operated the second most with 84.

787 Destinations

The 928 flights were operated on 725 routes from 180 departure airports to 176 arrival airports. Tokyo’s Haneda Airport saw the most total movements (takeoffs and landings), followed closely by Tokyo-Narita, London-Heathrow, and Doha-Hamad.

Haneda and Narita each had 48 total 787 departures, while Haneda received the most arrivals at 46.

The most popular city pair for 787s on Monday was Guangzhou—Beijing, with 14 total flights between the two cities.

Tracking 787s

To track Boeing 787s, use aircraft type code filter ‘B78’. To further filter by sub-type, use ‘B788’ for 787-8 aircraft and ‘B789’ for 787-9 aircraft.
