On 5 May, Aeroflot flight 1492 returned to Moscow not long after takeoff after suffering an unknown failure and a hard landing resulting in a large fire. Russian authorities report that 41 people have died.
Update: Interim report released
Aeroflot flight SU1492 departed Moscow (SVO) for Murmansk at 15:03 UTC (18:03 local time). At 15:09 UTC the aircraft squawked 7600, which indicates a radio communications failure on the aircraft. At 15:26 UTC on approach to Moscow the aircraft changed to squawking 7700, which indicates a general emergency. At 15:30 UTC the aircraft touched down again at Moscow (SVO) in a hard landing, which caused the aircraft to catch fire.

Our systems initially noted erroneous data contributed by a single receiver, leading to the last moments of the flight not being displayed on the website. Note: ADS-B reports the uncorrected pressure altitude value. Moscow-Sheremetyevo Airport is located at 630 ft AMSL.

SU1492 was operated by a Sukhoi Superjet 100-95B that first flew in June 2017 and was delivered to the airline in September 2017. The aircraft was operated by two PowerJet SaM146 engines.

Interstate Aviation committee final report
The Interstate Aviation Committee released its final report in April 2025. Among the report’s conclusions: pilots were inadequately trained on degraded flight mode operations and the retrieval of hand luggage by passengers likely led to increased fatalities.
