Business jet crashes near Ankara carrying Libyan military leader

  • Falcon 50 registered 9H-DFS crashed south of Ankara
  • Flight squawked 7700, indicating general emergency
  • Last signal received at 17:41, 24 minutes after departure

A Falcon 50 business jet carrying Libyan military leaders crashed approximately 30 minutes after take off from Ankara on 23 December. According to Turkish authorities, the aircraft was carrying Muhammed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad, the Libyan army chief, along with at least four others.

The Falcon 50 operated by Harmony Jets Malta departed Ankara at 17:17:24 UTC, climbing to cruising altitude at 32,475 feet at 17:32. Beginning at 17:33:25 the aircraft experienced a brief, but high negative vertical speed, lasting just a few seconds. 

Based on the granular data we have processed (included for download below), the aircraft began squawking 7700 at 17:33:33. The last received ADS-B message from the aircraft was recorded at 17:41:17.
