Additional surface movement data at major airports in the United States is now available thanks to the inclusion of ASDE-X data on Flightradar24. Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X will supplement our own network’s ADS-B and MLAT data and help increase the availability and quality of surface movement data at some of the busiest airports in the world.
What is ASDE-X
Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X (ASDE-X) is composite data take from multiple sources on and around the airfield. ASDE-X combines data from surface surveillance radar, multilateration sensors, Airport Surveillance Radars, ADS-B sensors, and terminal automation systems to provide positional information for vehicles on the airfield.
Where is ASDE-X available?
ASDE-X is available at 35 major airports in the United States. You can click on each airport in the table below to go directly to the airport’s page on Flightradar24 and see live flights.
Why is this helpful?
ASDE-X is especially helpful for aircraft that are not yet equipped with an ADS-B transponder that are operating at airports for which we do not have ground-level MLAT coverage or coverage is poor. The addition of ASDE-X will help us track flights at the beginning and end of their flights where we may have lacked coverage before.
