Flightradar24’s collaboration with AvioBook brings a new level of situational awareness to pilots.

Real-time data and situational awareness are crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of commercial aviation operations. Flightradar24 and AvioBook, a Thales Group company, have joined forces to integrate Flightradar24’s flight tracking data into AvioBook’s suite of solutions. Our collaboration promises to enhance operational efficiency and situational awareness for airlines worldwide.

Background

AvioBook is the leading provider of electronic flight bags, offering digital solutions designed to streamline airline operations. Starting with an EFB for pilots, the company now provides a full ecosystem of solutions for all stakeholders in digital flight operations that streamline airline workflows, improve communication between all airline employees and enhance overall operational efficiency. With a focus on innovation and reliability, AvioBook supports airlines to create fully paperless and smart operations.

AvioBook’s EFB applications replace traditional paper-based methods, providing instant access to important documents, charts, and real-time data. This technology reduces pilot workload, improves flight safety, and enhances overall operational efficiency by providing up-to-date information directly to flight crews.

Flightradar24 is renowned globally for its comprehensive flight tracking services, providing real-time information about thousands of aircraft in the sky. With over 42,000 ADS-B receivers, Flightradar24 offers accuracy and coverage, monitoring more than 95% of the world’s airspace. This data is invaluable to airlines, airports, and aviation enthusiasts for tracking flights, analyzing traffic, and enhancing situational awareness.

Pilots have long used Flightradar24 as an additional tool for situational awareness in the flight deck, but only recently have we seen our data used in official electronic flight bag solutions used by airlines.

The Challenge

Airlines require reliable, real-time data to make informed decisions during flight operations. While AvioBook’s EFB solutions already incorporated extensive data layers, including weather forecasts and flight plans, the need for accurate live traffic data remained. This data is essential for comparing projections with actual events, ensuring compliance with international mandates, and identifying any discrepancies in flight operations.

Airlines have a regulatory requirement to track and monitor their airline fleets from the ground. Having that increased situational awareness means ground teams are able to better support flight crews, anticipating solutions to critical situations in the sky. Finding reliable sources for that data, which also have the necessary coverage for worldwide operations, can prove challenging.

The Solution

To address this challenge, AvioBook chose to integrate Flightradar24’s comprehensive flight tracking data into AvioBook Base it’s EFB administration and dispatch solution. The decision was driven by FlightRadar’s proven record and consistent coverage in providing data making it it an ideal partner for the international customers in the AvioBook community.

Integration and Implementation

The integration of Flightradar24 data into AvioBook Base, and more specifically the situational awareness application AvioBook Base Globe, has brought significant benefits. Jonas Lejeune, Chief Product Officer at AvioBook, explains:

“AvioBook Base is designed to increase the situational awareness of our users. We already have extensive data layers built around the latest forecasts, actual weather events, and flight plans but wanted to improve our live data to compare the projections with what’s actually happening. With Flightradar24, we found extensive and reliable coverage, which is a key factor in our choice of data provider for an international company like AvioBook. By integrating AvioBook Base Globe with Flightradar24 data, we are not only helping our customers meet the ICAO mandate but also enhancing their user experience for better decision-making and enhanced response to events in the sky.”

Real-World Implications

In providing the data to the AvioBook Base solution, FlightRadar24 will have a real and tangible impact on the operations of airlines. Marion Reybet-Degat, Product Manager at AvioBook, adds:

“It’s little wonder that we chose the industry leader, a favorite among pilots. I am particularly excited about the real-world implications that Flightradar24 data holds for airlines within Globe. It enables us to compare real trajectories with the flight plan and other data sources and, in case of discrepancies, raise alerts thanks to our performant alerting system. This way the dispatcher is informed immediately of any abnormal situation. Thanks to Flightradar24, we are now able to provide a complete and reliable flight monitoring system to dispatchers.”

Outcomes and Benefits

The integration of Flightradar24 data into AvioBook’s EFB solutions has resulted in enhanced situational awareness, better decision-making capabilities, and improved operational efficiency for airlines. EFB administrators and dispatchers now have access to real-time flight data, allowing them to respond swiftly to any changes or anomalies during flight operations. This integration not only meets regulatory requirements but also significantly enhances the user experience for airline staff, leading to safer and more efficient flights.

The collaboration between Flightradar24 and AvioBook demonstrates the importance of partnerships that improve the final user experience and boost airline operations.

“We are thrilled to partner with AvioBook to bring our advanced flight tracking data directly into the hands of airline dispatchers. This integration will provide real-time insights and improve decision-making, ultimately contributing to safer and more efficient flights”. – Fredrik Lindahl, CEO of Flightradar24.

By combining Flightradar24’s real-time flight tracking data with AvioBook’s innovative EFB solutions, airlines can now achieve significantly improved situational awareness and operational efficiency. This partnership exemplifies how leveraging cutting-edge technology and reliable data can transform flight operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance in the ever-demanding aviation sector.
