On this episode of AvTalk, Ian and Jason are back with their first regular episode of 2025. We get an update on the investigations into the crashes of Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243 and Jeju Air flight 2216. We take stock of Boeing’s progress toward a new safety culture one year after the Alaska Airlines 737-9 MAX door plug blowout. We discuss the preliminary report on the ground collision between a landing Japan Airlines A350 and Japan Coast Guard Dash 8. And the transition by Air Greenland from its former hub in Kangerlussuaq to the capital Nuuk is not without challenges.

Why is Brazil analyzing the “Black Boxes” from an Azerbaijan aircraft?
Why can’t you guys say DEI is the problem at Boeing.
Re the Japanese coast guard Dash 8 entering the runway despite not being cleared: this has been known for a while now. The pilot was told to wait at the entrance to the runway, at the same time the ATC told him “you are the first”, which he misunderstood to mean he was cleared to enter the runway. Since then there have been discussions whether they should stop using the term “you are the first” to avoid confusion.
Hello! Thanks so much for a great podcast! Is there any chance you would consider putting links in the show notes so that listeners can skip to (or return to) particular stories? That would be a huge help rather than having to randomly skip forward and back. Thanks for considering!
Where can I find the show notes on Spotify? It’s mentioned frequently but I’m not sure where I’m meant to be looking!
Great show as always guys 🙂
