The Boeing 737 MAX 10 first flew on June 18, 2021. The aircraft, registered N27751, took off from the Boeing facility at Renton at 10:07 local time under the callsign BOE101. This airframe was also the first MAX 10 to be debuted to the public. The 737 MAX 10 was launched at the Paris Air Show in 2017, designed for customers requiring a higher capacity aircraft. According to Boeing, the MAX 10 can carry up to 230 passengers in a single-class layout.
Competition with the Airbus A321neo
The 737 MAX 10 launch was squarely aimed to compete with the Airbus A321neo family, but how do the two narrowbodies compare?
Boeing 737 MAX 10 | Airbus A321XLR | |
---|---|---|
Max seats | 230 | 244 |
Max range | 3,100 nautical miles | 4,700 nautical miles |
Engines | CFM LEAP 1B | CFM LEAP 1A or Pratt & Whitney PW1100G |
Max takeoff weight | 89.7 tonnes | 101 tonnes |
Whilst both aircraft have the capacity to carry a similar number of passengers, the extended range capabilities of the A321LR and A321XLR mean that the MAX 10’s high-capacity advantage will be best utilized on short to medium haul routes. The aircraft is well suited to high-volume intra-European routes such as those operated by Ryanair, this led to a mammoth order for up to 300 MAX aircraft from the Irish low-cost carrier in May 2023.
Who are the largest 737 MAX operators?
- Southwest Airlines (WN) – 193 aircraft
- United Airlines (UA) – 123 aircraft
- Ryanair (FR) – 106 aircraft
(Active aircraft, not including orders, last updated June 2023)
