Etihad is announcing ten new destinations (can you guess where?)

Updated 25 November 2024 with the official list of destinations below!

Etihad Airways is getting ready to announce ten new destinations this Monday the 25th, and they’ve been building up the suspense with little hints. They want you to guess where they might be.

The fun thing about this is even the people I know at the airline have no idea what the new cities are.

Etihad has been busy

Etihad has been busy the last couple of years adding aircraft, reactivating A380s, installing new cabins and adding cities to the route map. And we’ve had the chance to be around for some of the fun as we’ve joined the Abu Dhabi-based airline for a number of cockpit flight videos as well as looks at their heavy aircraft maintenance, crew training and more.

They are lots of fun to work with creating content. That makes it extra exciting that the airline is getting ready to announce these ten new destinations.

What are your guesses?

So I’m curious: which new destinations do you think are going to be on the list? Leave you guesses in the comments below, and let’s discuss.

I have my own list of cities – it’s a combination of educated guesses plus just straight-up wishful thinking and/or dreaming. But that’s part of the fun right. Here’s my list. Let me know what you think. Are any just way off? And we’ll see how many I got right in a few days.

My destination guess list

  • Zagreb (ZAG)
  • Belgrade (BEG)
  • Marrakesh (RAK)
  • São Paulo (GRU)
  • Chiang Mai (CNX)
  • Taipei (TPE)
  • Ho Chi Minh City (SGN)
  • Philadelphia (PHL)
  • Miami (MIA)
  • Cape Town (CPT)

How did we do? (The destinations revealed!)

Etihad today revealed the list of destinations and it turns out I only got two out of ten of them! That’s not a great batting average, however I am pleased I guessed Chiang Mai. I’m also personally happy to see Hong Kong added to the list as it’s somewhere I like to go pretty often. As you’ll see there’s a big focus on Asia in general. Here are the cities Etihad will begin flying to from next year:

  • Algiers (A321LR; beginning November 7, 2025)
  • Tunis (A321LR; beginning November 1, 2025)
  • Atlanta (A350-1000; beginning July 2, 2025)
  • Hong Kong (787-9; beginning November 5, 2025)
  • Chiang Mai (A321LR; beginning November 3, 2025)
  • Hanoi (A321LR; beginning November 3, 2025)
  • Krabi (A321LR; beginning October 9, 2025)
  • Phnom Penh (A321LR; beginning October 3, 2025)
  • Taipei (Boeing 787-9, beginning September 7, 2025)
  • Medan (A321LR; beginning October 2, 2025)

What’s especially interesting is how much they’re utilizing the new A321LR fleet to grow. It makes a lot of sense. I’m especially eager to try out their A321LR cabin with two First Class seats at the front.

What do you think of the list of cities?
