Renderings of the six aircraft Lufthansa plans to use for its 100th anniversary fleet, including an A320neo, A350-900, A350-1000, A380, 747-8I, and 787-9

Lufthansa to launch special 100th anniversary livery fleet

In late September, Lufthansa unveiled a special 100th anniversary livery on one of its new 787s. The livery features a deep blue background with a white crane across the fuselage that blends into the wings. On the left side of the fuselage is painted a large “100,” and on the right side, “1926-2026,” to mark the airline’s centenary.

This week, the airline announced that it would feature this special livery on not one, but six aircraft. In addition to the already painted Boeing 787-9, Lufthansa will also paint an Airbus A320neo, A350-900, A350-1000, A380, and Boeing 747-8I.

Boeing 787-9 registered D-ABPU is the first aircraft to be painted in Lufthansa’s special 100th anniversary livery. The aircraft is currently undergoing pre-delivery flight testing and is expected to fly home to Germany in December 2025. Commercial service is expected to begin in January 2026.

    1. Absolutely, that would be so beautiful and not that boring all white livery that every other airline has

    2. Except D-ABYT. Retro Livery is one of the best 747-8s they have. Painting a few in the 100th Anniversary livery and a few more in Retro would be so nice for the 747 fleet.

    3. they are a great airline. Paint all planes that new crane logo. The white on deep blue is attractive.

    4. Looked so fantastic.I hope aircraft in China could have this kind of paint someday

    5. They should make a retro livery jet, kinda how air canada did the TCA livery on the A320.

  1. It would be a great idea also to paint the firstever 777-9 which is expected to be delivered next year in fall; and concerning the 747-8 it is my wish that D-ABYT keeps it‘s present beautiful 1970/1980s livery and for exemple D-ABYA is going to be repaintef.

    1. From photos I saw and the recent flight history, I believe ABYG is getting repainted as we speak. Yankee Tango is gorgeous in her Retro Livery.

  2. This special livery is more exciting than their current standard one. Expand to more aircrafts. Can’t wait to see it on the A380 and B747.

  3. The bird motif and the one on the tail needs to be in YELLOW!
    What is wrong with Lufthansa?

  4. Looks great, but I wonder how much it cost to repaint the new livery on the various different aircraft? What metrics will be used to measure ROI of this change. It appears that Lufthansa will have an outstanding fiscal year in 2025!

  5. I know I’m a blast from the past but I can’t get over it that the fried egg (das Spiegelei) isn’t part of the livery anymore. The yellow logo was so iconic and you where able to spot a LH aircraft from the far straight away. I just do not associate the colour blue with LH. For me it will be forever the iconic yellow.

  6. I wish that will be the new painting for all KH-airplanes /-jets in the next time. It is a nice livery for the brand LH.😉👍

  7. Why does a German airline buy aircraft from the United States, even though Boeing has taken a clearly negative turn? Does this put passengers at risk on purpose? Why is capital sent to the United States instead of supporting the European manufacturer, who builds demonstrably safer aircraft? I avoid Lufthansa, no matter how they try to present themselves. The seat space and the service fall far behind other airlines.

  8. “Lufthansa’s 100th anniversary livery is absolutely stunning. The clean design, classic touches and modern elegance really capture the airline’s heritage. It would be fantastic to see more aircraft in this special livery – it’s a beautiful way to celebrate a century of aviation history.”

  9. All that paint adds a lot of extra weight. Looks great in the air, but Id have to see it on the ground to appreciate it. The picture on the ground doesn’t do anything for me.

  10. Stunning, heard you talking about it on the pod and didn’t really get the ‘imagine seeing it in banked turn’ comment. Now I see it I totally understand.
I wish Lufthansa flew to New Zealand so could see it in the alloy/carbon! 🙂 Last time I saw a Lufthansa aircraft was their lovely 747-8 at Buenos Aeries.

  11. Seems these will be very hot inside, especially for a culture that’s anti air conditioning

  12. Now that is a statement. Just on looking at the image, this livery appears to have a presence and would be worthy of the entire fleet wearing it.

  13. My thought. There are too many flights in the air. Customers should book around airline scheduling, rather than planes flying to meet consumer demands. I miss the days where we dressed up to fly. I remember my dad wearing jacket and tie as a passenger. Respect was the norm. Flying was a treat, a privilege. Meals were always served and food was good. Newark to Chicago, AM Steak and Eggs. Air Traffic Controllers are falling victim as demands are met. When will enough be enough? Look at the craze this has created. It is a miracle everyday when there are no lives
tragically lost. When will there be a breaking point? Sooner or latter? I’ve been looking for a place to share these thoughts, thank you for this opportunity. I fortunately do not fly very often anymore.

    1. “It is a miracle everyday when there are no lives tragically lost.”
Aviation is the safest form of transport that exists. It is safer than driving by a very long way for example. The reason it seems like there are so many accidents is because there are so many flights, 1 in a million of which will crash.
“Customers should book around airline scheduling, rather than planes flying to meet consumer demands.”
That’s just how the airline industry works in this day and age.
Unfortunately for you, the airline industry has changed massively since the 60s and 70s, simply because airlines want to cater to everyone, even budget travellers. Airline profit margins are ridiculously slim so they have to cut certain things, such as the steak and eggs you mentioned. They might offer that in First or Business on an international flight though not in economy.
Air travel is so much safer than it once was. Accidents have decreased from “one per 350,000 passengers in the late 1960s to approximately one per 13.7 million passengers more recently. This improvement is even more impressive when considering the massive increase in air traffic and departures.” Over the last 30 years the average number of airline accidents involving passenger fatalities worldwide has halved every 10 years.

  14. The 787 in the photo looks just so good. I really can’t wait for the rest of them to come through, especially the 747!

  15. I am a very traditional guy so i rather keep a not so renewing design but it is ok for some selected aircrafts.

  16. It’s a Fantastic Livery and they should paint the entire fleet with it as it’s recent livery is quite boring tbh whereas this one is very striking

  17. Well done, Lufthansa. Very classy. Far more sophisticated than BA rushing out their 100th to be ‘first’, when they weren’t really 100, even if their parents were there before. A bit crass.

  18. Don’t you think they look great. Every bit the representation of a brilliant airline.

  19. Awesome new livery. My prior fav was the late BOAC speedbird style in gold against the midnight blue . This rivals

  20. This livery is a beautiful piece of graphic design compared to the present-day fleet design, which is less dramatic. The anniversary livery reflects more on the ethos of Lufthansa and their place in the aviation industry.

  21. Please ask Lufthansa to include South Africa n their special livery flight schedule in celebrating their 100 th Andy sternanniversary

  22. Very nice design but is it really worth the expenditure to do this? By all means celebrating being in business for 100 years is a milestone in any company but maybe the cost of painting these aircraft could have been used on something more lasting within the company?

  23. Is that it? Sorry, but it’s nothing special. Where is the vivid yellow which for so long used to contrast with the blue?

  24. Beautiful liverys, the spotter’s will be out in droves when any of these show up ✈

  25. Love the new livery – looks great, and presumably all new aircraft will be painted in the new look.
Query: Does anyone know if the dark blue will eventually fade due to full exposure to the sun, especially at high altitudes. Hope not, but it seems that most airlines have pale or white fuselages and there may be a reason for this.

  26. Nice livery, I think it’s a good idea to repaint the complete fleet due to 100 years.

  27. That should add it to the A321neo! And also the A319 and their A330 and A340-300/-600

  28. Diese Lackierung ist ein Hingucker. Vielleicht sollten zumindest die neu in Dienst zu stellenden Flugzeuge mit der neuen Lackierung versehen werden.

  29. I think, Lufthansa should move the whole fleet into that fantastic new BRAND – Signal for move to better or best !
    Greetings Dieter Gutmann
