United to fly Los Angeles-Beijing

United Airlines will launch a new intercontinental route from Los Angeles beginning in May, which will operate with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft configured for 257 passengers (48 Business, 21 Premium Economy and 188 Economy). Services will be conducted three times weekly.

According to its website, the first flight between LAX and Beijing is scheduled for May 1st. The Chinese capital will become United Airlines’ second destination in the country and the fifth in Asia from Los Angeles, including Hong Kong and Japan. It also operates to Melbourne and Sydney, each with a daily frequency.

Cancún, Guatemala City, Hong Kong, Liberia, Melbourne, Puerto Vallarta, San José, San José del Cabo, San Salvador, Shanghai, Sydney, Tokyo (Haneda and Narita) and Vancouver are United’s international destinations to/from LAX.

Arcata, Aspen, Austin, Baltimore, Boise, Boston, Bozeman, Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Eagle County, Fort Myers, Fresno, Hailey, Hayden, Honolulu, Houston, Jackson, Kahului, Kona, Lafayette, Las Vegas, Līhu’e, Monterey, Montrose, Newark, Orlando, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Prescott, Redding, Redmond, Reno, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Seattle, St. George, St. Louis, Tampa and Washington DC are part of the domestic schedule.

Air China and Hainan Airlines currently operate the Beijing Capital – Los Angeles route, four and three times per week, respectively.

Fiji Airways begins flights to Dallas

At 15:11 local time on December 11th, Fiji Airways’ inaugural flight from Nadi landed at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. DFW is the airline’s third destination in the United States and fourth in North America, all offered from the country’s capital.

Fiji Airways will serve three weekly times with 334-seat Airbus A350-900 planes.

Commenting on the launch of the service, Fiji Airways CEO and Managing Director Andre Viljoen said, “This new route significantly strengthens Fiji Airways’ connectivity across North America, making it easier than ever for U.S. travellers to access Fiji and the South Pacific, with seamless onward connections to Australia and New Zealand. In line with our mission, ‘We Fly for Fiji,’ this new service will bring up to 1,000 passengers to Fiji each week, supporting our nation’s tourism industry and creating new avenues for business collaboration between our two nations.”

DFW’s Chief Executive Officer, Sean Donohue commented, “DFW is excited to add the beautiful islands of Fiji to our growing portfolio of international destinations, bringing North Texas nonstop access to a tropical paradise and connecting Nadi with DFW’s network of more than 250 destinations around the world.”

Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver are its destinations in the United States and Canada.

Breeze starts operations from New Haven

On December 10th at 11:38 local time, Breeze Airways’ first flight arrived at New Haven’s Tweed Airport, launching its new base in Connecticut. The Airbus A220-300, registration N228BZ, landed from Fort Myers after a 2 hour and 24 minute flight.

At publication time, Breeze operates four routes to/from HVN, and will reach 10 scheduled services as of February. All will be provided by A220-300s.

Breeze Airways joins Avelo Airlines at New Haven, making it a two-airline airport for the first time in 18 years. The last occasion had been for a few months during 2007, when Pan Am Clipper Connection and US Airways operated at the same time.

Avelo continues to grow at HVN, by adding more routes in February, March, April and May. According to our database, it currently runs 24 routes, with an average of 15 daily departures and arrivals.

Air Transat to commence services to Berlin

The Canadian airline will inaugurate a new destination in Europe for summer 2025.

Operations to the German capital will begin on June 19th and will be offered on Airbus A321neo aircraft for 199 passengers from Toronto, twice-weekly.

Air Transat reaches 36 transcontinental destinations, being Europe the airline’s main market outside the Americas. Berlin joins Valencia, the other new route to Europe recently announced by the company, which will start on June 20th.

“This new route aligns with our revenue diversification strategy by targeting an important yet underserved market. It also leverages our A321LR aircraft, enabling us to offer a high-quality inflight experience, as well as our joint venture with Porter, which connects the German capital to several major Canadian cities,” said Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer of Transat.

Silver Airways files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

On December 31st, 2024, the airline announced its voluntary entry into Chapter 11 protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida. This decision, as commented in a press release, is to secure additional capital and conduct a financial restructuring to improve its position as a competitive airline.

Silver is scheduled to complete this process in the first quarter of 2025.

In accordance with our database, Silver Airways has 14 aircraft in its fleet, being 8 ATR 42-600 and 6 ATR 72-600, configured for 46 and 70 passengers, respectively. Its main bases are Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, San Juan (Puerto Rico) and Tampa.

Boeing 777-300(ER) with 450 seats will fly to Orlando.

The airline confirmed it will operate between Toronto Pearson and MCO with these aircraft beginning February 28th. At the time of publication, it will be on a limited schedule (until March 14th).

On the other hand, with respect to new routes, Air Canada will add three regular destinations from Vancouver, all to the United States.

American

The company will launch new routes and boost frequencies in the U.S.-Canada market starting in April.

Calgary, Halifax and Quebec City will have new American flights, and it will increase its operations from Charlotte, Chicago, New York LaGuardia and Philadelphia.

Arajet

Following two years, Arajet received approval from the U.S. DOT to commence flights to the United States.

The Dominican airline intends to begin operations in the second quarter of 2025 from Punta Cana and Santo Domingo to Miami and New York (EWR, JFK or SWF), as well as to San Juan in Puerto Rico.

This approval comes after the announcement of open skies between the United States and the Dominican Republic, which took place in November.

PUJ/SDQ

 

Arajet has 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8 in its fleet, being Canada its only market in North America.

Avelo

Avelo Airlines will have another major expansion in the United States, in addition to introducing new services to the Caribbean. The carrier will operate with its Boeing 737-700 and Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

avianca

One of the main Latin American airlines continues to grow in Florida, by launching five new routes. At the moment, none of them have a confirmed start date, but are expected to initiate during 2025.

Tampa is a new avianca destination in the United States.

Breeze

As of February 7th, Breeze Airways will inaugurate operations between Provo and San Bernardino. According to its website, the airline will fly two times weekly with 137-seat Airbus A220-300 jets.

British

British Airways will begin a second daily frequency between London Heathrow and San Francisco using Airbus A380-800 for 469 passengers starting March 29th. The company plans to serve this route, until at least May 31st, with A380s only.

Caribbean

The airline will boost its frequencies between Kingston and Fort Lauderdale effective March 9th, from three to seven flights per week. As announced in our Latin America report, Caribbean Airlines launched this route on December 17th, 2024 operating with Boeing 737 MAX 8 airplanes.

Condor

More flights to Seattle and Anchorage.

By summer 2025, the German company will increase its weekly services from Frankfurt, which will operate on Airbus A330-900neo aircraft configured for 310 passengers.

Delta

Delta Air Lines continues to expand its international flights with Airbus A330-900neo jets, replacing Boeing 767s. At time of publication, these changes will take place by summer 2025.

Two new JSX destinations from Oakland.

Starting March 2nd, the carrier will begin operating to Carlsbad and Scottsdale on 30-seat Embraer 145 aircraft, in both cases four weekly times.

jetBlue

Edinburgh and Madrid, as announced on the blog, will be added to jetBlue’s regular European schedule from Boston as of May. The company will operate the two routes by 138-seat Airbus A321LRs.

KLM

The Dutch airline announced it will boost frequencies on four routes between Amsterdam and the United States for summer.

Austin, Boston, Minneapolis and Salt Lake City will have the following increases:

The Canadian company will offer five services per week between the two cities with Embraer E-2 aircraft configured for 132 passengers in single class.

Effective late June, Porter intends to increase to seven weekly flights.

Southwest

The airline will add four new routes within Florida.

Orlando will have Southwest’s new services to Fort Myers, Miami, Sarasota and West Palm Beach, which will be performed on Boeing 737-800s:

In addition to the Florida expansion, Southwest Airlines will commence operations between Las Vegas and Washington Ronald Reagan beginning February 21st. Based on its website, the company will provide this schedule.

United

As well as the announced new domestic and international routes from/to Denver, the airline will launch new services to/from Chicago, Houston and Washington DC.

United Parcel Service

On December 3rd, after an eight-month suspension, UPS resumed operations from/to Santiago de Chile. The airline will serve the Miami – Campinas – Santiago de Chile – Quito – Miami route three weekly times with Boeing 767-300(F) aircraft.

WestJet

The Canadian carrier will commence services between Vancouver and Austin on May 11th. At publication time, WestJet will perform three operations a week by Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes.
