United States and Canada route updates – November 2023

After concluding with the global market update for October, we start with the November update for the U.S. and Canadian markets. To review all the content covered in October, please click on the following links:

 

A major highlight of the month is Air Transat’s introduction to the African market. For the first time, the Canadian airline will operate services to Africa, in this case from Montreal with Airbus A321LRs.

As mentioned in the first edition of the USA/Canada market update, in addition to the inauguration of services to Africa, the company will expand into South America with flights to Peru from Toronto and Montreal.

Services will begin in December.

 

Air Canada

The carrier will launch flights to Stockholm on June 12th, 2024. Operations will be carried out from Montreal and Toronto, using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.

Montreal will have three weekly services, and Toronto two.

Canada – Sweden

Tuesday, Friday and Sunday

 

Wednesday and Saturday

 

Sweden – Canada

Monday, Wednesday and Saturday

 

Thursday and Sunday

 

Air Transat

The airline will inaugurate its regular flights to Africa effective June 12th, 2024. Air Transat will operate services to Marrakech, Morocco, twice weekly from Montreal with Airbus A321LR jets.

Wednesday and Saturday

 

Thursday and Sunday

 

Air Transat will be the third operator in the Canada-Morocco market, after Air Canada and Royal Air Maroc.

 

The carriers have services between Montreal and Casablanca, with the following schedule:

Air Canada

Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday

 

Monday, Wednesday and Friday

 

Royal Air Maroc

Daily

 

Friday and Sunday

 

Alaska Airlines

Alaska will operate between Anchorage and New York JFK, becoming the longest route in its regular schedule. The 3,386-mile service will begin on June 13th, 2024, with a daily frequency.

 

Portland, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle are the airline’s current destinations at New York’s JFK airport.

In addition, Alaska will begin seasonal service between Anchorage and San Diego beginning May 18th, 2024. The company will operate once a week until August 17th.

Saturday

 

American Airlines

The carrier plans a major reduction at Austin (AUS) starting in 2024.

According to different reports, American is expected to cancel 21 routes between January and March, which include the following:

Bahamas

 

Costa Rica

 

Dominican Republic

 

Jamaica

 

Mexico

 

United States

American will start services between Washington Reagan and Bermuda beginning April 4th, 2024. The airline plans a daily flight with 128-seat Airbus A319 aircraft.

Charlotte, Miami and New York are American Airlines’ current routes in Bermuda:

  • Charlotte (CLT): 7 weekly · Airbus A319
  • Miami (MIA): 7 weekly · Airbus A319
  • New York (JFK): 7 weekly · Boeing 737 MAX

 

Avelo

On November 2nd, Avelo Airlines inaugurated flights between Philadelphia/Wilmington and Sarasota/Bradenton. Operations will be twice weekly with Boeing 737-800 planes configured for 189 passengers.

Sarasota will have flights from Wilmington (ILG) for the first time.

Thursday and Sunday

Avelo will begin service to the Caribbean as of November 15th. The flights will be operated from New Haven Tweed Airport on Boeing 737-800 aircraft with the following schedule:

Wednesday and Saturday

  • XP 327  New Haven HVN 07:30 · 12:15 SJU San Juan
  • XP 328  San Juan SJU 12:45 · 15:50 HVN New Haven

Breeze

Gulfport, Mississippi, will be one of the newest additions to the Breeze Airways network.

The carrier will commence operations effective January 12th, 2024 with two routes:

Monday and Friday · Airbus A220-300s

 

 

American, Delta, Sun Country Airlines and United currently operate at Gulfport Airport.

 

Delta Air Lines

Delta will launch flights between Atlanta and Phoenix with 339-seat Airbus A350-900 aircraft beginning December 7th. The airline will operate once daily on these jets, joining the current flights, which are carried out by Airbus A321s, Boeing 757s and Boeing 767s.

Eastern

At the time of publication, Eastern Air Lines has five flights on sale between Miami and Santo Domingo for the next five months. The company operates a monthly service on this route with Boeing 767-200(ER) and Boeing 767-300(ER) aircraft.

Eastern offers the monthly flight to the Dominican Republic since December 2022.

 

Flair

The airline inaugurated service to Punta Cana from Toronto on October 29th, its first scheduled flight to the Dominican Republic.

In addition to Toronto, as of December 23rd, Flair will start operating between Ottawa and Punta Cana.

Flair will inaugurate operations to Guadalajara, Mexico, on May 31st, 2024. Flights will be performed from Vancouver, twice a week.

At present, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta are the airline’s markets in Mexico.

  • Edmonton (YEG): 5 weekly · Boeing 737s
  • Montreal (YUL): 5 weekly · Boeing 737s
  • Ottawa (YOW): 1 weekly · Boeing 737s
  • Toronto (YYZ): 6 weekly · Boeing 737s
  • Vancouver (YVR): 4 weekly · Boeing 737s
  • Waterloo (YKF): 1 weekly · Boeing 737s

 

Puerto Vallarta

  • Calgary (YYC): 5 weekly · Boeing 737s
  • Edmonton (YEG): 3 weekly · Boeing 737s
  • Toronto (YYZ): 5 weekly · Boeing 737s
  • Vancouver (YVR): 7 weekly · Boeing 737s

 

Frontier

The carrier will add five new domestic routes from Fort Myers Southern International Airport between November 16th and 17th. These services will be served by Airbus A320 jets:

jetBlue

Due to a restriction imposed by the Dutch government in order to reduce the amount of flights, jetBlue is set to lose its slots at Amsterdam as of summer 2024. The airline inaugurated operations to Schiphol Airport last September, serving once daily from Boston and New York with Airbus A321 aircraft.

In case the flights are finished, jetBlue’s European market will remain with five routes in two countries:

 

However, while its Amsterdam slots may be lost, jetBlue continues to add connections to Europe.

Dublin and Edinburgh will be new destinations for the company in this market starting in 2024.

The capital of Ireland will have flights from Boston and New York from March 13th, while services to Edinburgh will start on May 23rd, in this case, only from JFK.

jetBlue will also inaugurate operations between Boston and Paris in April 2024.

Furthermore, the carrier began flights to Saint Kitts and Nevis last November 2nd, reaching its 25th destination in the Caribbean.

jetBlue will operate three times a week from New York’s JFK airport with Airbus A320-200 jets.

Porter

The Canadian operator launched flights between Toronto and Tampa last November 2nd. Porter will serve with Embraer E-2 aircraft, which have 132 seats.

Tampa became the company’s first destination in Florida.

Boston, Chicago, New York, Tampa and Washington are Porter’s actual U.S. destinations.

Starting November 10th, the airline will inaugurate flights to Fort Myers, also from Toronto. Porter Airlines will operate under the following schedule:

Southwest

Southwest Airlines will add six international routes from Orlando MCO beginning in June 2024. The operations will be performed with Boeing 737-700s and Boeing 737-800s seating 143 and 175 passengers, respectively.

Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Turks and Caicos Islands will be the new markets:

Spirit

Beginning March 28th, 2024, Spirit Airlines will inaugurate operations to the new Tulum Airport (TQO), in Mexico. The carrier will serve from Fort Lauderdale and Orlando as follows:

Both will have a daily frequency.

United Airlines

The airline confirmed the addition of a new destination to Portugal in May 2024. United will fly between Newark and Faro with Boeing 757-200 aircraft, four times a week.

Currently, Montreal is the only destination in the Americas from the Portuguese city (Air Transat).
