Royal Air Maroc returns to South America

Royal Air Maroc will resume flights to South America after four and a half years of suspension.

Operations will be carried out between Casablanca and Sao Paulo Guarulhos, Brazil, starting December 7th. According to its website, the airline will offer three services a week on this route with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft configured for 274 passengers.

Monday, Thursday and Saturday

It will be the fifth non-stop connection in Africa from Sao Paulo, and the first in Morocco.

Aeromexico presented its new route between Mexico and South Korea to the press and guests at an important hotel in Mexico City. Flights will begin on August 1st, and will be operated on 274-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets.

The Mexico City – Monterrey – Seoul – Mexico City route will have a daily frequency, with a technical stop in Monterrey.

Following a four-year hiatus, Azul Linhas Aéreas resumed services to Argentina.

On June 30th, the first flight departed Campinas at 10:01 local time for Bariloche, a city located in the Argentine Patagonia.

Azul’s last operations between Brazil and Argentina had been in March 2020, prior to the pandemic.

At that time, the company flew to Buenos Aires from Belo Horizonte, Campinas and Recife. A few weeks before the cancellation, Azul Linhas Aéreas also had flights to Córdoba and Rosario, other cities in the country.

Aerolíneas Argentinas

The airline began several new domestic and international routes for 2024 South American winter season. Operations will be carried out by Embraer 190, Boeing 737-700, Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8, with the following schedule:

In addition, Aerolíneas Argentinas increased to two daily frequencies its flights to Madrid and Miami from Buenos Aires, the company’s main international destinations.

Aerolíneas SOSA

The Honduran carrier incorporated another Saab 340.

Last June 25th, the aircraft, with registration HR-SES, arrived at La Ceiba airport (LCE) from Miami Opa Locka. The plane is 27 years old, and had previously operated for Silver Airways under registry N328AG.

Aerolíneas SOSA reaches 3 aircraft in its fleet, averaging 30 years old. All of them are Saab 340s.

Aeromexico

As well as the announcement regarding the resumption of flights to South Korea, being the only Latin American airline with operations to the country, Aeromexico inaugurated three new routes to the United States as of July 1st.

Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Francisco and Seattle are its other U.S. destinations at Mexico City’s Benito Juárez Airport.

Alaska Airlines

La Paz, Mexico, will join Alaska Airlines’ regular schedule.

These operations will start on November 20th, and will be conducted from Los Angeles with Skywest’s Embraer 175s:

Wednesday and Saturday

 

La Paz Airport (LAP/MMLP)

Alaska will commence services between Los Angeles and Monterrey beginning February 13th, 2025, which will also use Skywest Airlines’ E175s:

Daily

 

Its destinations in Mexico are Cancún, Guadalajara, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Loreto, Manzanillo, Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta and San José del Cabo.

avianca

The company inaugurated regular operations between Bogotá and Paris Charles de Gaulle on Wednesday, July 3rd. Avianca currently has three weekly frequencies with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner jets.

As of July 15th, the airline will expand from three to five services per week (new flights departing from Bogotá on Mondays and Thursdays, and Tuesdays and Fridays from CDG).

Boliviana de Aviación

At 20:06 local time on July 3rd, the first Boliviana de Aviación flight from La Paz arrived at Lima airport.

The country’s state-owned carrier will offer three weekly flights on this route using Boeing 737-700 and Boeing 737-800, with capacity for 138 and 168 passengers respectively.

Wednesday, Friday and Sunday

 

La Paz becomes the third city in Bolivia with Boliviana de Aviación’s international operations. The airline also serves from Santa Cruz de la Sierra and Cochabamba.

Copa Airlines

Florianópolis and Tulum, Copa’s new destinations in Latin America, which began on June 26th.

Both routes will be operated to/from Panama City on Boeing 737-800s.

The company previously had flights between Panama and Porto Alegre, but these have been suspended since April due to flooding in the Brazilian city.

Delta

Delta Air Lines plans to add another destination to Tulum, the new Mexican airport that started operations in late 2023.

The company is scheduled to launch flights from Minneapolis beginning December 21st by Boeing 737-800 aircraft, once a week.

Saturday

 

At the time of publication, Tulum has connection with Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami and New York, in terms of cities in the United States.

JetSMART

The low cost carrier inaugurated its services to Pereira from Lima on July 4th, which will be operated with 186-seat Airbus A320neo airplanes.

In accordance with our database, JetSMART will offer two weekly flights between both cities (372 seats per week on each leg).

Thursday and Sunday

 

Cartagena, Medellín and Pereira are the airline’s destinations in Colombia from the Peruvian capital.

Pereira has international operations to Panama City, Lima, Miami and New York, but American’s flights from Miami will end effective October 27th.

LATAM

Last July 1st, LATAM Airlines launched a new domestic route in Perú. Services will be performed on Airbus A319-100 aircraft with capacity for 144 passengers.

LATAM reaches 17 destinations in Perú, all of them offered from/to Lima.

Its current routes are Anta (Huaraz), Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Chiclayo, Cusco, Iquitos, Jauja, Juliaca, Piura, Pucallpa, Puerto Maldonado, Tacna, Talara, Tarapoto, Trujillo and Tumbes.

Mexicana de Aviación

The Mexican state-owned airline intends to add new routes in Latin America, in addition to the new connections announced to Canada and the United States, as we published in this report.

Currently, Acapulco, Campeche, Chetumal, Ciudad Victoria, Guadalajara, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Ixtepec, Mazatlán, Mérida, Mexico City (NLU), Monterrey, Nuevo Laredo, Palenque, Puerto Vallarta, San José del Cabo, Tijuana, Tulum, Uruapan and Villahermosa are its destinations in México.

Paranair

For 2024/25 summer season, Paranair confirmed its three seasonal destinations, which will commence in December.

Operations will be to/from Silvio Pettirossi airport, in the Paraguayan capital.

These new connections will join Buenos Aires, Ciudad del Este, Córdoba, Montevideo and Santa Cruz de la Sierra, which are part of Paranair’s regular schedule.

Rutaca

The Venezuelan company has recently acquired two McDonnell Douglas MD-82s.

In both cases, as can be seen through our database, the MDs landed at Simon Bolivar airport in Caracas on June 19th from Sofia, Bulgaria, having previously operated for European Air Charter.

At publication time, the MD-82s, with registrations YV15ES and YV16ES, are in Caracas awaiting the start of operations.

The Chilean low cost carrier launched four routes between June and July for winter season. These operations, according to our database, will be conducted from Santiago de Chile with 186-seat Airbus A320neo aircraft.

VivaAerobus’ inaugural flight from Monterrey to Miami departed at 09:20 local time on July 1st. The Mexican airline will offer three services per week on this route, which will be operated by Airbus A321neo aircraft with a capacity for 240 passengers.

It’s Copa Airlines’ first Boeing 737 MAX 8.

Aerolíneas Argentinas’ new Boeing 737 MAX 8, registration LV-KIU, with a hybrid scheme between Aerolíneas Argentinas and Ukraine International Airlines. The jet will receive the current Argentine company’s livery in September, after winter season.
