Lufthansa confirmed it will start services between Munich and Washington, D.C. with Airbus A380-800s as of May 31st. The airline currently operates this route on Airbus A340-600 aircraft once daily, in accordance with our database.
The U.S. capital will become Lufthansa’s fifth A380 destination. Boston, Los Angeles and New York are its other routes in the United States, and Delhi is the remaining one.
At the time of publication, all of its Airbus A380s are based at Munich airport. Lufthansa has 8 aircraft of this type, of which 5 are operational.
Between its 4 current routes, the German airline has 28 flights per week using its Airbus A380-800s. With the beginning of Washington, weekly operations will reach 35, which will be maintained throughout summer.
The last A380 flight to Washington is scheduled for September 30th. From October onwards, services will be performed on the 293-seat Airbus A350-900.

On June 1st, 2023, Lufthansa reactivated its Airbus A380-800s after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The airline had initially announced it would not use these aircraft again, but confirmed in mid-2022 that the A380s would be back in operation, mainly due to the strong increase in demand and the delay in the delivery of new jets.
