After the monthly update of the United States and Canada for November, we move on to Latin America to review the most important events of the last few weeks in this market. To read the previous edition, click here:
One of the many highlights of this market was the re-incorporation of a Tupolev into Cubana’s fleet. The aircraft returned to Havana after a period of almost four years in Russia.
Cuba’s state-owned carrier now has three active aircraft in its fleet. Several Antonov An-158 and Ilyushin Il-96-300 are inactive at Havana’s Jose Marti Airport, and it is unknown whether these aircraft will fly again in the future.

Mexicana de Aviación
The iconic Mexicana de Aviación, which ceased operations in 2010 due to a severe economic crisis, seems to be returning in the short term. Mexican President Lopez Obrador had announced its comeback during a press conference last July, focusing mainly on the domestic market.
Recently, an image of the first plane of the “new Mexicana de Aviación” became known through social media. In contrast to what was announced, the airline plans to start its services with an Embraer 145, which belongs to TAR, another Mexican carrier. Initially, the incorporation of 10 Boeing 737-800s had been reported, which were scheduled to arrive between September and November, but this did not happen.
The Embraer is undergoing the painting process.
As can be seen on their website, these will be the destinations, all to and from Mexico City’s new airport, known as AIFA / Felipe Angeles.

We will follow the evolution of the “new” Mexicana de Aviación.
