KLM steps in for Delta between Amsterdam and Portland

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced it will begin regular operations to Portland starting October 27th. Flights will be performed with 294-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, three times a week.

The Dutch company will reach 13 destinations in the United States, all of which are carried out to/from Amsterdam.

Tuesday, Friday and Sunday

 

KLM will assume the services between Amsterdam and Portland, currently operated by Delta Air Lines. The U.S. carrier has a daily frequency on Airbus A330-300s.

Delta offers 2,051 weekly seats on this route, and KLM will provide 882 on each leg, with the planned schedule.

On June 26th at 14:31 local time, Air Greenland’s inaugural flight from Nuuk arrived in Iqaluit. The airline will operate one frequency per week using De Havilland Canada Dash 8-200s configured for 37 passengers.

Iqaluit returned to Air Greenland’s regular schedule after a 10-year hiatus. The last services had been between 2012 and 2014, also with these aircraft.

Wednesday

 

Air Greenland’s route schedule from/to Nuuk consists of Ilulussat, Kangerlussuaq, Kulusuk, Maniitsoq, Narsarsuaq, Paamiut and Sisimiut.

Air Canada

For winter season, Air Canada will start several international routes from Quebec City.

Operations will be conducted with Air Canada Rouge’s Airbus A319s.

Alaska Airlines

Effective January 6th, 2025 Alaska will begin operating between Portland (Oregon) and New Orleans. The airline will serve using its 174-seat Boeing 737-900(ER) planes, on a daily basis:

Albuquerque, Anchorage, Austin, Billings Logan, Boise, Boston, Bozeman, Burbank, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Fresno, Honolulu, Kahului, Kalispell, Kansas City, Kona, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Medford, Minneapolis, Missoula, Nashville, New York, Newark, Oakland, Ontario, Orlando, Phoenix, Reno, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, San Luis, Santa Ana, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Seattle, Spokane and Washington Ronald Reagan are Alaska Airlines’ destinations from Portland. Meanwhile, the carrier operates 14 services a week between Seattle and New Orleans, its only route in MSY.

American Airlines

At 14:15 local time on Friday, June 28th, American Airlines’ inaugural flight from New York JFK landed at Tokyo Haneda. Services will be performed once per day with Boeing 777-200(ER) aircraft configured for 273 passengers.

JFK becomes the third U.S. airport with American flights from Tokyo Haneda after Dallas and Los Angeles, where it offers 7 and 14 weekly operations.

American Airlines also offers a daily frequency between Dallas and Tokyo Narita on Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner jets.

Atlas Air

During June, the airline has taken delivery of another Boeing 747-400(F), following its painting process in San Bernardino. The 22-year-old aircraft, currently registered N274AB, was retired from China Airlines’ service in December 2023.

In accordance with different reports, the Boeing 747 will soon receive the registration N439GT, and will start flights for Atlas Air shortly.

Avelo Airlines

More services to Concord, North Carolina.

Avelo expanded, in mid-June, from two to four weekly flights from New Haven, which will operate by Boeing 737-700s and Boeing 737-800s with 147 and 189 seats respectively.

Allegiant and Avelo are the carriers with operations to/from Concord (USA).

Breeze

During June, Breeze Airways commenced many new routes for summer season. Based on our database, the airline will perform these flights with Embraer 190 and Embraer 195 planes.

Copa Airlines

On Friday, June 21st, at 14:15 local time, Copa Airlines’ inaugural flight from Panama City arrived in Raleigh-Durham. The company will provide four services a week on the 154-seat Boeing 737-800.

Delta Air Lines

Delta is scheduled to launch flights to Orlando with Airbus A350-900s beginning July 8th.

The first service will depart Atlanta at 08:15 local time for MCO, where it will arrive an hour and a half later.

Currently, Delta Air Lines plans a weekly frequency between Atlanta and Orlando, its shortest A350 route.

Monday

 

Delta has 30 Airbus A350-900s in its fleet, which average 5 years old.

Between Atlanta and Orlando, the airline offers 95 flights per week with Airbus A330-300, Boeing 757-200 and Boeing 757-300 aircraft.

Eastern

In mid-June, Eastern Airlines announced the addition of the first Boeing 737 freighter for its new subsidiary, Eastern Air Express. The plane, registered N811TJ, is undergoing maintenance in Lima, after its arrival on June 26th from Marana via San Antonio.

Eastern Air Express has almost 35 aircraft in its fleet, including Boeing 737-300s, Boeing 737-400s, Boeing 737-700s and Boeing 737-800s, but six of them are currently in operation.

The rest are parked at different airports in the United States (Marana MZJ, Kansas City MCI, Dothan DHN, Roswell ROW, Winston Salem INT and Tucson TUS).

Regarding Eastern Airlines, the company has 9 jets between Boeing 767s and Boeing 777s. As we published in the Asia/Oceania report, the Boeing 777 N771KW is operating for Garuda Indonesia, and the aircraft maintains part of Eastern’s scheme.

Frontier

New York JFK has joined Frontier’s regular schedule.

Last June 7th, the airline made its first ever flight to John F. Kennedy International Airport. The first operation was served from San Juan (Puerto Rico), a route that runs twice daily.

Furthermore, the company will start two new routes from New York JFK as of August 13th.

Operations will be performed with Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 as follows:

jetBlue

On June 27th, jetBlue doubled its flight frequency between New York JFK and Paris Charles de Gaulle. The services will be operated on 136-passenger Airbus A321XLRs.

Amsterdam, Dublin, Edinburgh, London LGW/LHR and Paris CDG are jetBlue’s destinations in Europe.

For winter, beginning October 24th, the airline will expand its operations between West Palm Beach and Providence.

According to its website, jetBlue will increase from 7 to 14 flights a week, to be conducted with Airbus A320s:

JSX

The semi-private carrier JSX confirmed it will launch new routes to Florida starting in November, and from Salt Lake City in December, in both cases for winter season. 

Flights will be carried out using its Embraer 145s for 30 passengers.

Mexicana de Aviación

Mexico’s state-owned airline announced an order for 20 Embraer E-2s, as published in our Latin America report.

In addition to further expanding the fleet, the Mexican government confirmed that it intends to add new destinations, reaching the US and Canada for the first time.

Operations would be carried out from Felipe Angeles International Airport in Mexico City, the airline’s hub, and Tijuana.

Pacific Coastal Airlines

At 09:35 local time on June 25th, Pacific Coastal Airlines’ inaugural flight from Kelowna landed in Comox. The Canadian carrier will offer six weekly services on this route with 19-seat Beech 1900D aircraft.

Comox, Nanaimo and Victoria are Pacific Coastal’s destinations in Kelowna. From Comox, as well as Kelowna, Pacific Coastal operates a daily flight to Vancouver.

Porter

A new expansion to the United States will be made by the Canadian airline between November and December.

Porter Airlines will commence several routes to Florida for winter, in addition to a new destination in the state.

West Palm Beach is a new Porter destination.

Services will be operated by 132-seat Embraer E-2s.

Southwest

After 18 years, Dallas and Providence recovered their regular connection.

Southwest inaugurated its seasonal flights between DAL and PVD on June 8th. The operations will be carried out with Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8, in accordance with our database:

The airline has more than 70 routes to/from Dallas DAL.

As for Providence, Southwest Airlines serves flights to Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, Tampa and Washington DCA.

Spirit

San Jose and Sacramento, new Spirit routes from Burbank.

Flights will begin on September 4th, and will be operated daily on Airbus A320 aircraft with capacity for 182 passengers.

Starting December 19th, United will operate flights to Fort Lauderdale with Boeing 777-200(ER) planes.

As reported on its website, services will be performed from Chicago through January 6th, 2025 with the following schedule:

Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Houston, Newark, San Francisco and Washington DC are United’s regular routes to Fort Lauderdale.

WestJet

Minneapolis will have a new WestJet connection.

The Canadian carrier will fly from/to Calgary as of April 27th, 2025 on Boeing 737-700s, with a daily basis.

Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg are WestJet’s current routes in Minneapolis.

WestJet Airlines operates to Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Honolulu, Houston, Kahului, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York JFK, Orlando, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Ana, Seattle and Washington from Calgary.

With respect to new aircraft, 27 were incorporated between different airlines in the United States and Canada.

As a highlight, more than half were Boeing 737 MAX.
