Hainan Airlines resumes flights to Vienna after a four-year hiatus

After a four-year suspension due to the pandemic, Hainan Airlines resumed its services to Vienna in the Austrian capital. The first flight arrived on May 29th at 07:33 local time from Shenzhen, following an eleven-hour flight.

Hainan will offer two operations per week on this route with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft configured for 289 passengers (2,600 monthly seats on each leg).

Wednesday and Saturday

 

Shenzhen becomes Vienna’s third connection to China after Beijing and Shanghai. Bangkok, Seoul, Taipei and Tokyo are other destinations in the region.

United Airlines launched non-stop flights between San Francisco and Barcelona last May 23rd. Operations will have a daily frequency, to be carried on 275-seat Boeing 777-200(ER) jets.

The two cities will have 12 weekly services by summer 2024, including seven flights of United and the remaining five of Level, which operates using Airbus A330-200s.

Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca and Tenerife South are the Spanish cities served by United Airlines (during summer season).

On May 30th, Norse Atlantic Airways commenced its first route in the U.S.-Greece market.

The airline will perform five flights a week between New York JFK and Athens with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner planes with a capacity of 338 passengers.

Norse operates to JFK from Berlin, London LGW, Oslo, Paris CDG and Rome, in addition to Athens, reaching more than 40 weekly services to/from New York with all its connections.

  • airBaltic started flights between Palanga and Amsterdam.

 

  • American and Delta also began new connections to Europe.

 

  • Animawings continues increasing the number of routes with its new Airbus A220.

 

  • Austrian Airlines to fly to Ivalo.

 

  • Azerbaijan Airlines inaugurated operations between Baku and Sofia (Bulgaria).

 

  • British Airways will boost flights to Riga in winter.

 

  • Discover Airlines to resume transatlantic services from/to Munich.

 

  • easyJet will have more than 60 new routes.

 

  • FlyOne is set to commence flights between Chisinau and Manchester.

 

  • Lufthansa will have operations to Rovaniemi.

 

  • Mykonos and Rhodes, two new Gulf Air destinations in Greece.

 

  • T’Way to operate from Seoul to Barcelona and Rome.

 

  • Thai will resume flights between Bangkok and Brussels.

 

  • Tromsø keeps adding new airlines.

Aeroitalia

Milan Bergamo – Palermo, Aeroitalia’s new route.

Starting July 1st, the company will launch operations between the two cities, which will be carried out on Boeing 737-400s.

airBaltic

The airline opened its services between Palanga and Amsterdam last May 29th. As can be seen through our database, the flights will have two frequencies per week on Airbus A220-300 aircraft:

Wednesday and Sunday

 

 

Current routes offered from Palanga are Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Dublin, London Stansted, Oslo and Riga.

Air Greenland

During mid-September, the carrier schedules more flights on its Nuuk – Iqaluit route, to be operated once weekly as of June 26th.

The frequency will increase from one to two a week between September 16th and 22nd, with a special flight on the 19th.

American Airlines

At 10:05 a.m. local time on Monday, June 5th, American Airlines’ inaugural flight landed in Naples.

Operations will be conducted to/from Philadelphia with 234-seat Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, seven weekly.

American’s fourth connection in Italy after Milan, Rome and Venice.

The following day, the company began services between Philadelphia and Copenhagen.

In the case of the Danish capital, flights will have a daily frequency on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets with capacity for 285 passengers.

Animawings

According to its website, the airline will start flying between Bucharest and Stockholm beginning October 1st. Services will be three per week using Airbus A220-300 planes.

Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday

 

Animawings’ fleet consists of 2 Airbus A320-200s. The first 2 Airbus A220-300s will enter regular operations on September 15th, with routes to Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Larnaca, Oradea and Paris Charles de Gaulle from Bucharest.

Aurigny

Effective October 19th, Aurigny is scheduled to commence flights between Guernsey and Porto with 69-seat ATR 72-600 aircraft. At the time of publication, as listed on its website, services will run until early November.

Saturday

 

Austrian

Vienna – Ivalo, Austrian Airlines’ new route for winter season.

Operations will start on January 25th, 2025 and will be available until March 1st, in line with its website. During the 35 days of service, Austrian will offer 5 flights each way.

AZAL

At 11:52 local time on June 7th, Azerbaijan Airlines’ inaugural flight from Baku arrived at Sofia airport. The company will offer twice-weekly flights between the two capitals on 106-seater Embraer 190s.

Tuesday and Friday

 

AZAL reaches 59 routes from/to Baku GYD, including the following countries: Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Bulgaria, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Georgia, Germany, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Montenegro, Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan.

British Airways

During winter 2024/25, British Airways will add more flights between London Heathrow and Riga. The carrier will increase from three to seven services a week from October 28th, which will be operated by Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 aircraft.

British had resumed this route, after 16 years, on October 29th, 2023.

As well as American, Delta inaugurated new flights to Naples (NAP).

On May 24th at 07:37 local time, the airline’s first service from New York landed at the Italian airport. Operations will be daily with 226-seat Boeing 767-300(ER) jets.

Discover Airlines, part of the Lufthansa group, announced it will restart its long-haul flights to/from Munich.

At time of publication, according to its website, Calgary, Orlando and Windhoek will be its new destinations, operated with Airbus A330-300s seating 283 passengers in three classes.

The ultra low cost carrier confirmed the addition of more than 60 new routes, scheduled to commence effective October 2024.

On June 10th at 15:31 local time, Edelweiss Air’s inaugural flight from Zurich landed in Evenes (Harstad). According to our database, the airline will have a weekly frequency with Airbus A320 aircraft.

Between October and January 2025, Eurowings will have five new routes in Europe, four of them from/to Hamburg:

As of December 20th, the airline will start operations between Chisinau and Manchester. FlyOne will have, at the time of publication, one service per week on Airbus A320-200 jets configured for 180 passengers.

At present, FlyOne has more than 10 aircraft in its fleet, including its three subsidiaries (Moldova, Armenia and Romania).

Gulf Air

Bahrain’s flag carrier added two new destinations to Greece in early June.

Gulf Air will operate two weekly flights with Airbus A320neo on the Bahrain – Mykonos – Rhodes – Bahrain route.

Thursday and Saturday

 

As well as Mykonos and Rhodes, the company serves between Bahrain and Athens on Airbus A321neo planes.

The German company will operate twice-weekly flights between Frankfurt and Rovaniemi, its brand new route starting November 30th.

In accordance with its website, Lufthansa will offer these services with Airbus A319 and Airbus A320 aircraft.

Lufthansa’s A319s have 146 seats and the A320s 182.

Norwegian

On October 31st, for winter season 2024/25, Norwegian will begin two new routes from/to Tromsø (TOS):

Plus Ultra

In partnership with Polish operators, Plus Ultra will offer charter flights between Warsaw and Cartagena. The first service is scheduled for November 2nd, and will be available in European winter (South American summer).

Saturday

 

Bogotá, Caracas, Cartagena, Lima, Madrid, Malabo and Tenerife are the Spanish airline’s current regular destinations.

Ryanair

The ultra low cost company will modify its operations to Venice Marco Polo and Venice Treviso, switching two routes starting in late October.

In addition, according to Italian media, Ryanair would launch services to Salerno in winter 2024/25. Bergamo and Turin would be the regular destinations, although no flights are currently on sale.

T’Way

T’Way Airlines, the South Korean low cost airline, has announced a new expansion to Europe between August and September.

Barcelona and Rome will enter T’Way’s regular schedule, both to/from Seoul Incheon on 246-seat Airbus A330-200s.

Korean Air offers 7 weekly services with Boeing 777-300(ER) aircraft and Asiana 5 using Boeing 777-200(LR).

Thai

Effective December 1st, Thai plans to resume operations between Bangkok and Brussels. In line with its website, the airline will offer one daily frequency on Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner jets.

Operations, for winter season 2024/25, will commence on December 21st with Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Turkish Airlines

At 15:47 local time on Tuesday, June 11th, Turkish Airlines’ inaugural flight from Istanbul (IST) arrived in Denver. The company will perform three services per week with 327-seat Airbus A350-900 aircraft, although the first two flights were on Boeing 777-300(ER).

Denver becomes Turkish’s 14th destination in the United States.
