February routes roundup: AirAsia X resumes flights to London after a 14-year hiatus

AirAsia X will return to Europe with a route connecting three countries.

Starting June 26th, the airline will launch the Kuala Lumpur – Bahrain – London Gatwick route and vice versa, which will operate daily on Airbus A330-300 aircraft with a capacity for 367 passengers. AirAsia X has traffic rights for all legs, including Kuala Lumpur-Bahrain and vice versa, Kuala Lumpur-London and vice versa, and Bahrain-London and vice versa.

In accordance with our database, Jeddah is AirAsia X’s only current destination in the Middle East, operated four times a week from the Malaysian capital using the same aircraft.

Qantas

Qantas will make history by launching flights to Las Vegas.

For the first time, Sydney will be connected to the US city via regular non-stop flights, which will be conducted by Qantas during the Australian summer 2026/27 (North American winter 2026/27).

The first flight is scheduled for December 29th and the last for March 12th, 2027, as, at least for now, they will be seasonal.

Qantas will operate with 236-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

Dallas, Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco are Qantas’ current destinations in the United States, all of which are operated to/from Sydney. The route to New York has a stopover in Auckland in both directions.

Porter

The airline continues to strengthen its connectivity between Canada and the United States, with two new routes from Toronto, but from different airports.

As of May 21st, Porter will introduce a new service between Toronto Pearson and Austin, which will be conducted with 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. On September 1st, it will begin flying between Toronto Bishop and Chicago O’Hare using Dash 8 Q-400 aircraft.

Boston, Chicago Midway, Newark, and Washington, D.C. are Porter’s destinations in the United States from/to Toronto Bishop Airport.

Aerolíneas Argentinas

Due to the World Cup 2026, Argentina’s flag carrier will introduce two new routes between Argentina and the United States starting in June, to be operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft configured for 170 passengers.

In our last route report, we announced the return of the Córdoba-Miami service, which will be provided by Aerolíneas Argentinas, and these two other Argentine cities will be connected to Florida for at least two months.

Between June and August, Aerolíneas Argentinas will operate flights to Miami from Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Punta Cana, Rosario, and Tucumán.

Aeromexico

The Mexican airline will return to the Ecuadorian capital on March 23rd, following an absence of almost two years. These flights will be performed from the Mexican capital on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, making it the only airline to operate in the Mexico-Ecuador market.

Aeromexico had conducted its last flight between the two capitals on June 30th, 2024, which was carried out by the Boeing 737 MAX 8 with registration number XA-MFN.

LATAM and GOL

Effective July 1st, for the first time in its history, LATAM will operate flights between Brazil and Ushuaia, a city located in Argentine Patagonia.

The seasonal services will be offered four times weekly during the 2026 South American winter season, using Airbus A320-200 and Airbus A320neo aircraft.

Just six days after this launch, GOL Linhas Aéreas, another Brazilian airline, will begin flying between São Paulo and Ushuaia, operating Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday

 

As with LATAM, GOL will also be running this route for the first time.

Loganair

Starting in May, Loganair will expand its network from Jersey Airport by adding four new routes, which will be operated by ATR 72 and Embraer 145 aircraft with a single-class cabin configuration.

Ryanair

The low-cost carrier is expanding its operations in Katowice with the introduction of three routes within Europe.

Aarhus, Lamezia, and Tirana, in Denmark, Italy, and Albania, respectively, will be added under the following schedule:

Alicante, Athens, Brussels, Budapest, Catania, Dublin, London, Malta, Manchester, Milan, Paphos, Oslo, Reggio Calabria, Rome, and Trapani are Ryanair’s current connections in the Polish city, as per our database.

STARLUX

As of August 1st, STARLUX Airlines will begin flights to Europe through its new Taipei-Prague route. The Czech capital will have three services per week from the Taiwanese airline, using 306-seat Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

Air Niugini

Papua New Guinea’s largest airline will fly to Fiji.

Beginning March 29th, Air Niugini will operate flights between Port Moresby, the country’s capital, and Nadi with Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Fiji’s third-largest city will be added to Air Niugini’s schedule as follows:

Air Niugini has Airbus A220-300s, Boeing 737-800s, Boeing 767-300s, Dash 8s, Fokker 70s, and Fokker 100s in its fleet.

IndiGo

As of March 31st, the Indian low-cost airline will launch a new route to Abu Dhabi, which will be served by 186-seat Airbus A320neo aircraft. IndiGo will offer 12 connections to/from the capital of the United Arab Emirates, and Tiruchirappalli will operate on this schedule:

Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kannur, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangaluru, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam are its destinations from Zayed International Airport.

flydubai

The airline will launch its second route between Dubai and Thailand, to be operated as part of flydubai’s codeshare agreement with Emirates. According to the press release, flights to Bangkok Don Mueang will begin on September 26th, using 174-seat Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Flydubai currently offers two daily flights between Dubai and Krabi (Thailand) on the same aircraft. With the addition of the Thai capital, the airline will reach 28 weekly flights in the United Arab Emirates-Thailand market.

Oman Air

Effective June 1st, Oman’s flag carrier will launch flights to Tashkent, operating twice-weekly from Muscat, the country’s capital, on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Monday and Friday

 

Oman Air will be the only airline to connect Oman and Uzbekistan.

Air Congo

Air Congo, the Kinshasa-based airline owned by Ethiopian Airlines, is planning an international expansion in Africa, starting operations between Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Africa on March 22nd.

These flights will be performed with Boeing 737-800 aircraft configured for 154 passengers, with a stopover in Lubumbashi (Democratic Republic of the Congo) in both directions.

The airline of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has three Boeing 737-800 in its fleet, being 9S-AGA, 9S-AOA, and ET-BCI its registries.

Emirates

From March 29th, Emirates Airline will begin flights to Uganda with Airbus A350-900 aircraft configured for 298 passengers.

The A350-900 will replace the Boeing 777-200(LR) and Boeing 777-300(ER), currently operating this route. According to the Emirates website, Airbus A350s will serve to/from Dubai year-round.

For the first time, Emirates will fly to Entebbe with Airbus A350, making it its second destination on the African continent after Tunis.
