After the US and Canada market update, it’s time to travel to Europe for the monthly summary of this region. If you want to see the update from Latin America and the United States and Canada, please click here.

In a market with many potential highlights, we begin with low-cost, long-haul carrier Norse Atlantic Airways and the airline’s new focus on Miami to Europe. The airline began operations to the Florida State city in mid-September, offering two routes, and has already confirmed the addition of two more starting in December.

Besides Miami, in the United States, Norse has flights to Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando and Washington, from different cities in Europe.

Atlantic Airways

Seasonal flights between Vágar and London Gatwick will be inaugurated by the airline as of June 1st, 2024. The carrier from the Faroe Islands will offer twice-weekly services during the European summer with the following schedule:

Tuesday

  • RC 416  Vágar FAE 07:30 · 09:40 LGW London
  • RC 417  London LGW 10:40 · 12:50 FAE Vágar

Saturday

  • RC 416  Vágar FAE 16:45 · 18:55 LGW London
  • RC 417  London LGW 19:55 · 22:05 FAE Vágar

British Airways

Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro

Starting October 29th, British Airways will begin flights between London Heathrow and Buenos Aires Ezeiza via Rio de Janeiro Galeão. The company will stop operating non-stop between the two cities, and will start flying to Argentina with a stopover.

British Airways will have a daily service with Boeing 777-200(ER) aircraft, which are configured for 272 passengers. At press time, flights are scheduled for all of 2024, although there may be changes to the operating timetable.

As was the case during 2021, when it operated via Sao Paulo, British will be authorized to carry passengers between Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the airline had flights to the Argentine airport with a stopover at Guarulhos, in that case with Airbus A350-1000s.

Chicago

By April 2024, the British carrier will reach 21 weekly flights between London Heathrow and Chicago, a route it currently operates 14 times a week.

British offers these flights with Airbus A330-900neo (operated by Air Belgium) and Airbus A380-800 aircraft, and plans to modify the planes used in the short term.

The Airbus A330s will cease operations in mid-November, and the Airbus A380s in December, to be replaced by Boeing 777s, Boeing 787-8s, Boeing 787-9s and Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners.

The new frequency, which will be BA flight 299/298, will start on April 29th of next year.

San Diego

San Diego will have more British Airways flights in the summer of 2024, doubling from 7 to 14 weekly services.

Currently, the airline operates daily with its 331-seat Airbus A350-1000. According to British Airways’ booking system, the company will add a new service, which will also be operated on a daily basis.

The new frequency, effective from mid-2024, will be carried out on Boeing 777-200(ER) aircraft with a capacity of 272 passengers.

easyJet

easyJet announced an ambitious plan regarding the growth of its fleet. The airline expects to add another 157 Airbus aircraft, plus the option of another 100 Airbus A321neos.

These new aircraft will join the low cost carrier between 2029 and 2034.

Currently, easyJet’s fleet consists of 182 aircraft, with an average age of 11 years:

  • Airbus A319: 58
  • Airbus A320: 114
  • Airbus A321: 10

Iberia

The Spanish airline will increase operations to Argentina, Brazil and Chile. It currently offers 14 services a week to Buenos Aires, and 7 to Sao Paulo and Santiago de Chile.

On April 2nd, 2024, Iberia will boost flights between Madrid and the Argentine capital, from 14 to 17 weekly. The company will operate with its 288 and 348-seat Airbus A330-200 and Airbus A350-900 respectively.

Iberia will once again serve more than two daily flights to Argentina after a four-year hiatus, as the last time had been in early 2019, a schedule that lasted only a few months.

As for Santiago and Sao Paulo, both will increase to 10 weekly services:

  • Santiago (SCL): effective October 30th
  • Sao Paulo (GRU): effective March 31st, 2024

ITA Airways

ITA plans to inaugurate flights between Rome Fiumicino and Chicago (ORD) from April 2024. Operations are scheduled to be carried out with Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, six times a week.

Assuming the services eventually materialize, ITA Airways will reach seven U.S. destinations from Italy. At present, the airline flies to Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington D.C.
