As we mentioned in the Asia report, which you can read by clicking on this link, All Nippon Airways will expand its European network between Q4 2024 and Q1 2025, with the addition of three new regular routes from Tokyo Haneda.

Operations will be carried out with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft configured for 184/240 and 215/246 passengers, and are already on sale through the airline’s website as of July 22nd.

The Star Alliance member will begin services to Milan Malpensa, Stockholm Arlanda and Istanbul in December, January and February, respectively. These three cities will join Brussels, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Munich and Paris Charles de Gaulle, its other destinations in Europe.

Milan Malpensa

At 01:05 local time on December 3rd, the first flight to the Italian city will depart from the Japanese capital. According to its website, All Nippon Airways will have three frequencies per week between the two cities on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets, which means 738 weekly seats offered on each leg (considering the 787-9 with 246 seats).

Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday

ANA will be the only operator on this route.

Stockholm Arlanda

The airline will commence operations to the Sweden’s city effective January 31st, 2025. In this case, services will be conducted three times a week with Boeing 787-8 aircraft, featuring two seating configurations (Business and Economy).

Tuesday, Friday and Sunday

ANA will be the only operator on this route.

With respect to other Scandinavian countries, SAS has four weekly flights from/to Copenhagen on Airbus A350s, while Finnair and Japan Airlines operate to/from Helsinki, 7 and 4 times per week respectively.

Istanbul

On February 12th, 2025, it will be ANA’s first regular service to Istanbul airport. As with Stockholm, flights will be performed with three weekly frequencies by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner planes which, considering the 240-seat configuration, will offer 720 seats a week on this route.

Monday, Wednesday and Saturday

Turkish Airlines currently operates a daily flight between Istanbul IST and Tokyo Haneda with Boeing 777-300(ER) aircraft, and also runs one daily service on Boeing 787-9s to Tokyo Narita from IST.

“These new routes reflect ANA’s commitment to meet the increasing demand for travel between Japan and each country,” said Shinichi Inoue, President and CEO of ANA. “We hope this expansion provides our travelers with greater choice, new customer experiences and reinforces our commitment to a seamless and enjoyable journey. We are proud to have Paris and Munich on a daily flight and resume the Vienna route, and we look forward to seeing where these new routes will take our travelers as we continue to enhance our management vision ‘Uniting World in Wonder’.”

Currently, the carrier has 36 services per week between Tokyo and Europe, with Germany being its main market with two destinations and 21 weekly flights.
