American Airlines focuses on Europe for summer 2025

American Airlines confirmed its summer 2025 schedule to Europe, announcing five new routes from different U.S. cities. Operations will be carried out on Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and Boeing 777-200(ER) aircraft, configured for 234 and 273 passengers, respectively.

In accordance with the press release, the airline will add these connections between March and July 2025, which will be available during the 2025 summer season. Charlotte (CLT), Chicago (ORD), Miami (MIA) and Philadelphia (PHL) will have new regular destinations from the United States, and Athens (ATH), Edinburgh (EDI), Madrid (MAD), Milan (MXP) and Rome (FCO) on the European continent.

At the time of publication, as well as the new routes, American plans to operate through summer 2025 the new additions started in summer 2024. The company will maintain flights to Copenhagen (CPH), Naples (NAP) and Nice (NCE).

Chicago – Madrid · March 30th, 2025 (year-round)

American will operate this route with 234-seat Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner jets.

Philadelphia – Edinburgh · May 23rd, 2025 (summer)

The airline will fly on Boeing 787-8s, offering 1,638 seats a week per leg.

Philadelphia – Milan · May 23rd, 2025 (year-round)

According to its website, American Airlines will use 787-8s on this route, which represents more than 7,000 seats per month each way.

Charlotte – Athens · June 5th, 2025 (summer)

In this case, the company will perform these services by Boeing 777-200(ER) seating 273 passengers.

Miami – Rome · July 5th, 2025 (summer)

American, to operate with 777-200ERs, will provide 1,911 seats a week on each leg.

Other new developments

 

American intends to offer more than 70 daily flights between the US and Europe by summer 2025.

As can be seen through our database, Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Dublin, Frankfurt, Lisbon, London LHR, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Naples, Nice, Paris CDG, Rome, Venice and Zurich are part of American’s current schedule in Europe. In terms of markets, the countries with regular operations are Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

American Airlines has, at publication time, 416 weekly flights between the United States and Europe, more than 60 daily frequencies per leg.

On the other hand, American will expand its premium seat capacity in the US-Asia market. The main increase will be from Dallas on its routes to Tokyo Haneda, Tokyo Narita and Shanghai Pudong. Los Angeles – Tokyo Haneda will also have a further expansion of capacity.

 

  • Dallas (DFW) – Haneda (HND): daily flight will be performed with Boeing 787-9s
  • Dallas (DFW) – Narita (NRT): daily service will operate on Boeing 777-200s
  • Dallas (DFW) – Shanghai (PVG): daily flight to be carried out by Boeing 787-9s
  • Los Angeles (LAX) – Haneda (HND): twice-daily service will be conducted using Boeing 787-9s

 

Delhi, Doha, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo (Haneda and Narita) are American Airlines’ destinations in Asia, and Auckland its only route to Oceania.
