Inside the American Airlines Super80 Send Off

On 4 September, American Airlines retired the MD-80 family of aircraft from its fleet after 37 years of service. Named the Super80 by American, the airline operated more than 360 of the aircraft at its peak. On Wednesday, the final 26 were retired and 23 of them flown to the desert in Roswell, New Mexico. New Flightradar24 ADS-B Receivers Activated in August 2019

Each month we send out complete ADS-B receiver kits that include an ADS-B receiver, antennas, and all necessary cabling to qualified hosts. You can apply to host one of our receivers or easily build your own. The dozens of new Flightradar24-supplied receiver kits and the hundreds of home-built receivers activated in August combined with over 20,000 existing receivers, helped us track over 6 million flights.

New receivers activated in August helped improve our coverage in places like west African, India, and Indonesia. Our MLAT coverage in the United States experienced improvement as well with nearly 20 new receivers.

How to track the final Super80 Send Off

The Super80 Send Off to end all Super80 send offs, truly. On Wednesday, 4 September American Airlines will operate the final mass-retirement of its MD-80 fleet. Qantas to operate 3 Project Sunrise research flights

Qantas will operate three ‘Project Sunrise’ research flights in October, November, and December 2019 to ‘gather new data about inflight passenger and crew health and well-being’. These flights come ahead of a decision by Qantas on which Airbus or Boeing aircraft to choose for the New York to Sydney and London to Sydney routes. (more…)

Ural Airlines flight 178 lands in field shortly after take off

Ural Airlines flight 178 made an emergency landing in a field after suffering a bird strike shortly after take off from Moscow’s Zhukovsky International Airport (ZIA) on the morning of 15 August, according to a statement from the airline. No injuries have been reported. Flight 178 was operating from Moscow to Simferopol. (more…)
