Q: What’s the most memorable flight you’ve been on?
A: If hard pressed to pick only one—being seated by the window on board an AirKoryo Ilyushin Il-62M, enroute Pyongyang a few years back. The roar of those tailmounted engines is something I’ll never forget.
Q: What’s your favorite Flightradar24 feature?
A: Apart from the obvious flight tracking, I like MyFR24, where you can log your own flights and keep a record of where you’ve travelled, on what equipment, time spent in the air, and so on.
Q: What’s your most memorable flight tracking moment?
A: That would be my mom nervously tracking my very first time flying a jet aircraft. It was a crisp autumn day in Riga, Latvia—and I took off and landed a B737-500 six times in a row, the final exercise before I could officially call myself a type rated commercial pilot. Also, shout out to my mom!
Q: Any earliest aviation memories?
A: All those early morning departures as a kid when my family were going on vacation to warmer climes. I would press my excited face against the windows at Stockholm Arlanda airport, marveling at those metal birds connected to the jet bridges outside. Watching fuel trucks pull up, catering being delivered, perhaps a pilot doing the all-around. I caught the bug early and there was no turning back.
Q: How do you keep up to date with the aviation industry?
A: Apart from consuming the usual suspects when it comes to aviation news, I hear quite a lot through the grapevine as I still have a lot of friends who call the flight deck their office.
