An Amazing Avgeek Adventure in Los Angeles

On Saturday, we flew to Los Angeles for the day to attend Crankflier’s Dorkfest and NYCAviation’s SpotLAX events and we had an amazing time. Thank you to everyone who came out to watch planes and chat about aviation. A huge thank you to Crankyflier Brett Snyder, NYCAviation’s Ben Granucci, Heather Abbott, Andrew Poure, and Jeremy Dwyer-Lindgren for making the day possible. If you couldn’t make it this year, here’s a taste of what we saw during the day and we hope you can make it next year.

Our day began with a quick meet-up at the H Hotel for pre-Dorkfest rooftop spotting. Only a few minutes after we arrived, Delta’s special BCRF 767-400 arrived getting the day off to a great start. We then made our way to the park across from the In-N-Out for Dorkfest. It was a great crowd of avgeeks from around the world. One gentleman was visiting Los Angeles from Johannesburg and told us he came to Dorkfest because he heard about it on our AvTalk podcast! The rest of the day was filled with planes, great conversation, and the obligatory lunch at In-N-Out.

Building hours the fun way

Pilots need to continually build their number of flight hours as they work toward additional licenses and proficiencies. Many pilots do this with standard pattern work and flights to various airports in their region.
