2016 Flights in the News and Our Most-Tracked Flights

As the year comes to a close, we look back on some of the flights that made news this year. Some of the most-followed flights marked the beginning of a long journey —like the first flights of the 737 MAX and A350-1000—while others celebrated the end of one—like Solar Impulse’s successful round-the-world flight. Tracking Santa’s Flight with Flightradar24

Just in time for Christmas, Santa’s sleigh is out of the workshop and upgraded with the latest ADS-B transponder and elf-designed cabin interior for a long night’s work. 2016: a Year in JetPhotos

Since JetPhotos became part of the Flightradar24 family last year, the photo catalog has grown to over 3 million high quality aviation photographs. Flightradar24 Announces Cooperation with Aerial Maritime Ltd for Space-based ADS-B Flight Tracking

We are excited to announce our cooperation agreement with Aerial & Maritime, Ltd, a GomSpace subsidiary, as we move forward with development of space-based ADS-B flight tracking. With this cooperation agreement we will design and develop a joint flight data service based on FR24’s global terrestrial ADS-B network and extensive expertise and A&M’s space based infrastructure. Special Delivery—the Holiday Shipping Season

From the last week of November to the end of December FedEx and UPS see a surge in shipping as holiday gifts make their way from manufacturers to retailers to consumers. For 2016, FedEx anticipates it will double its average package volume to 25 million shipments on each Monday during the season. UPS has said it expects 13 of the 21 delivery days before Christmas to exceed 30 million packages. (more…)

Celebrating International Civil Aviation Day

7 December marks the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation in 1944, also known as the Chicago Convention, which created the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Since the 50th anniversary in 1994, the aviation world has celebrated International Civil Aviation Day. (more…)

New Flightradar24 ADS-B Receivers Activated in November 2016

In November, we activated over 100 new receivers, which helped us track 4,432,002 flights during the month. New receivers activated this month added important coverage in remote areas as well as helped us increase our MLAT coverage areas. (more…)
