Welcoming Weather to Flightradar24

We’re excited to announce that multiple weather layers are now available in Flightradar24! We’ve added layers for clouds, precipitation, lightning, volcanic eruptions, Airmets/Sigmets, and high level significant weather forecasts. Exploring Estimated Coverage in Flightradar24

While we continue to expand our receiver network and explore new ways to achieve our goal of global ADS-B coverage, there are still some areas where we lack ADS-B or MLAT coverage. When an aircraft exits our coverage area we continue displaying that aircraft using estimated positions. (more…)

Saying Goodbye to Iron Maiden’s Ed Force One

With its arrival in Gothenburg earlier today, Iron Maiden’s Ed Force One completed its part of The Book of Souls tour. Over the course of five months with the band, Ed Force One visited 45 cities on six continents and traveled over 123,000 kilometers. (more…)

Introducing Aeronautical Charts in Flightradar24

With Flightradar24 you have always been able to see where aircraft are flying. With our latest addition of aeronautical charts, you’re now able to see why they’re flying there. While the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, flights don’t actually travel directly from airport to airport. Commercial aircraft use a system of waypoints, navigational aids, and airways to navigate through the sky safely and efficiently. Those waypoints and airways are now available to our users with a Gold or Business subscription. (more…)

Understanding Extended Mode S Data in Flightradar24

With the release of the latest version of the Flightradar24 website we introduced new flight details called Extended Mode S data. We’re proud to be the first and only flight tracking service offering this additional flight data. We receive the Extended Mode S data directly from the aircraft we are tracking and decode the data for display on the website. Extended Mode S data can include additional information about the speed and altitude of the aircraft as well as weather information. Extended Mode S data is available to subscribers with a Gold or Business subscription. (more…)

New Flightradar24 Receivers Activated in May 2016

With over 10,000 receivers we tracked 4,783,244 flights in May. We also added nearly 200 new Flightradar24 receivers to our network in May. Spread over six continents, the new receivers are providing coverage in new areas and increasing our MLAT coverage in areas with existing ADS-B coverage. (more…)
