New Flightradar24 Receivers for the Week of 22 June

This week we activated about three dozen new receivers around the world. We continued to increase our MLAT coverage in Japan with four new receivers this week. We also added more receivers in the western half of the United States, increasing our coverage area there. (more…)

Fighting Fires from the Air

When wildfires grow to sizes larger than a small city, it takes more than a standard fire brigade to put them out. That’s when the world’s fleet of specialized air tankers comes into service. Operated by private contractors and government agencies, air tankers offer the ability to drop massive quantities of water or fire retardant on a fire quickly and without endangering fire fighters on the ground. New Flightradar24 Receivers for the Week of 15 June

This week we activated about 50 new receivers, adding new areas of coverage and increasing our MLAT coverage elsewhere. The half-dozen new receivers activated in Japan will increase our MLAT coverage there, while new receivers in China continue to increase our coverage area. Our new receiver in Iqaluit, Canada, is already helping with coverage of flights in the far north of the country. (more…)

New Flightradar24 Receivers for the Week of 8 June

This week we continued to add receivers in Brazil and China, further increasing our coverage there. We also added four receivers in the northwest United States and one in central Australia, which will help with our en-route coverage in those locations. Also of note is our new receiver in Oman. The 2015 Paris Air Show

Next week, the aviation world gathers at Le Bourget Airport for the Paris Air Show, the longest running aerospace trade show in the world. For a week in Paris, aviation’s latest and greatest will be on display on the ground and in the air. We’ll be updating this post with information about which aircraft are participating and how you can track them as we learn more closer to the show. (more…)

New Flightradar24 Receivers for the Week of 1 June

This week we activated over 50 receivers and made big strides in MLAT coverage in India, China, Brazil, United States, Europe, Japan, and South Africa! To see why we’re so excited about that, you can read our earlier post on how we track flights with MLAT. In Africa, we also activated receivers in Libya, Zambia, Algeria. Where Airplanes are Born

Arriving on barges, train cars, or inside specially modified airplanes, components of new aircraft are shipped to massive, complex factories around the world, where Boeing, Airbus, and other aircraft manufacturers assemble new airplanes and test each one to make sure it’s in proper working order before delivering it to its new owner. Tracking new planes poses a challenge because callsigns and departure or arrival airports can be missing or the aircraft may be operating under a temporary registration. But with a few filters, it’s possible to see new airplanes being born. (more…)

New Flightradar24 Receivers Activated During the First Five Months of 2015

It has been a busy first half of 2015 as we continue our quest for global Flightradar24 coverage. We have activated hundreds of new receivers around the world through the end of May. We’re continuing to make great progress in adding receivers in Brazil, China, and Russia. We also recently activated enough receivers in New Delhi for MLAT coverage. (more…)
